Hi ladies,
I'm 5 weeks pregnant and had an ultrasound today to assure that my pregnancy is not eptopic. (I got pregnant with an iud in place) They couldn't give me 100% reassurance because its so eary but they did see two possible sacs. The tech saw the complete panic on my face when she said that and told me it doesn't mean I am definitely having twins, just that it is a possibility and that they should be able to tell for sure in a few more weeks. After my first blood test my doctor told me my hcg levels were high but that was a good sign. I'm awating a call from my doctor on the tests today. My question is if any of you who are expecting multiples went through something similar to this and what your opinnions are. I know I will have to wait but the curiousity is killing me! Thanks for your help!
Re: Question
I had two sacs and two fetal poles at a 5w6d u/s.. so similar to what happened to you. It IS early.. they'll likely schedule a follow-up u/s to see if both sacs continue to develop. There's something called 'vanishing twin syndrome' which is when only one of two potential sacs basically stops developing.. but as I said, you'd have to get follow up ultrasounds to see how things play out.
Hcg levels aren't necessarily an indicator.. don't rely on those.
Aside from that.. we were very surprised by our twins. We're adjusting to the idea well as we figure out and organize how we're going to accomodate for two instead of one. It can certainly be overwhelming at times, but there's great support here if no where else.
Best of luck, and keep us updated!
