Dylan... trendy?

Would you consider this name trendy?  It's at the top of our list for #2 and would have been DD's name if she were a boy (she's 2 now).  But I can't get past the fact that it sounds like a trendy, almost made up name.  Our other boy name is Colin, which I think is also somewhat popular, but I feel is a bit more old school.

Thoughts?

Re: Dylan... trendy?

  • I love both of those names and I don't think either are too popular or trendy. It could depend on the are you live in. I have never met a Dylan or a Colin.

Dylan was #31 for 2008 and Colin was #114.

  • I like them both and they aren't overly trendy where I live!

  • I'm showing my age here, but when I see Dylan all I think of is Luke Perry from 90210. I agree with pp though... it depends on where you live. I think Colin "feels" more trendy than Dylan, but that could just be the Cleveland talking.
  • You're not showing your age.  I'm an original 9-0 girl myself and think of Dylan McKay as well... not that that's a bad thing :)

  • I don't think Dylan is trendy-I think it is less popular now than it was a few years ago. I think it's fine, though I like Colin better.

  • Dylan has been around for a while, as had Colin. THey are both nice names...not overly popular!
  • I think Dylan is popular... not trendy.  We liked the name but used it for our dog instead!  :)

I've never been a fan of Colin for some reason.

  • I don't think it's trendy at all.  Althought it does remind me of a name from the "70's or 80's"
  • I think Dylan is popular, but I don't classify it as trendy. ?Trendy (imo) = names nearly nobody had 15 years ago and are now everywhere (Aiden, Kaden, Braden, Jaden). ?I knew quite a few Dylans growing up and I know quite a few now- but it's not trendy because it's been around forever.

  • #2 would have been Dylan if she had been a boy.
  • Nope, it's not trendy. I love the name Dylan. I would say Colin is more trendy than Dylan, but they are both great names.?
  • Here's the scoop on Dylan - it wasn't in the top 500 until the 70's and didn't become a common name - top 100 - until the '90's.  It's in decline now, but still very popular.

Google the baby name wizard and look by state - in some states it's in the top 15, in others it's less popular.
