I'd never even bought cardamom before I made this cake, and now I'm on my second container of it. Love this cake!!! Maybe I eat it for breakfast - don't judge me!!!

Speaking of cake ... my step-grandfather loved German chocolate cake and my mom made it for him at least 3x/year - using the recipe on the chocolate box. It started off as a bribe for letting her use his truck and turned into a tradition! Even though he has passed away, I'm pretty sure he'd love this cake.
Re: Recipes post - cake edition
Glad to see I'm not the only one burning the midnight oil!
I didn't start cooking until I got married, but I found it helpful to find cooks that I trusted and follow their recipes to a T! I still don't consider myself a good cook, but I can follow instructions! So I just find a a recipe for a food that I already know I like and follow it word-for-word until I'm really comfortable with it.
I also think breakfast foods are easier to cook than other meals - maybe start there?
I made this recipe from a woman's baking blog the Sunday before last. The fresh pineapple (using my fab pineapple slicer:)) really made it. I used pineapple juice in place of the liquid in the yellow cake boxed mix I used, applesauce instead of the oil, and I added in a bit of Appletons Estate Dark Rum into the pineapple juice. I also brushed Appletons over the pineapples after the cake was finished. I do not recommend skipping the rum. It really made this cake even more fabulous than it was. Obviously I didn't give Jack a piece I had brushed with the rum.
The woman didn't use the cardamom so I didn't know about it until later. I'd love to know what you think? It adds a very chai tea flavor to the cake. MMmmmm
