Daycare issue?

I posted this on the toddler board, but thought I may get more responses here...

I don't know if this is an issue or not, but wanted to get your thoughts and see if anyone else has experienced this.  We started DD in daycare a few weeks ago - she is a year old.  My DH drops her off in the mornings (she goes three consecutive days a week), then I pick her up.  Everytime I've gone, she's been excited to see me and smiles and kicks her legs but yesterday, I went to pick-her up and just peeked into the classroom and saw her walking alongside a table with the teacher nearby and the other (older) children were watching a movie.  When I walked in and called her name, she saw me then started crying - it broke me heart.  The only other time she's started crying when she saw me was when she was left in her crib for a while and she had given up crying (maybe she thought we left her there for good), and when I walked in, she saw me and started crying.

My question to you guys is... has your DC done this on occasion to you, or should I be worried something might be going on at her daycare?  I'm trying to not be too paranoid about this and nothing else about this daycare has made me feel uneasy.

Re: Daycare issue?

  • I'd give it a couple more days.   Why are they watching movies?  That is so weird to me.

  • Towards the end of the day, when the kids are getting picked-up, they'll put in a movie like the little mermaid, since all their class schedule stuff is done.  That's the only time the TV is on - I guess it's hard to have a schedule when kids are getting picked-up at different times.

  • My son does that sometimes.  I think it's just his way of showing he missed me.  If nothing seems off otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Normal.  DD does that off and on and for no rhyme or reason from what I can tell.  Sometimes she just has bad days and is overwhelmed at the end.  Most of the times she is fine.

  • Another thing I forgot to mention:  a lot of times kids will act out at home after being away all day because they feel safer at home and can let those emotions out.  I think maybe he cries when he sees me sometimes for that same reason.  It's frustrating being a toddler.

  • Thanks for all your input!  I feel much better Smile
  • My kids "cry" when we pick them up every day. They have a grand time at school and laugh all day. It is just their way of being excited. They do the same thing at night when they get their warm milk!

  • I agree with the others.  Most likely no big deal.  DS sometimes cries when I come to get him even if, before he sees me, he is having a grand time.  As long as everything else seems good I wouldn't worry.
