Well, the dr said she wouldn't call it an allergy but a "sensitivity". Since returning to work after summer I have been struggling with pumping enough breastmilk for Ethan so he started getting some formula too last week. My mom had only given him the ready to feed. Yesterday she tried the same exact brand but the powder version and his mouth got red all over instantly. Then his face got really red and splotchy. The pedi had him come in but it was totally gone by then. They said to only give him the ready to feed for now. He has expensive taste! Just wondering if anyone else had this happen?
Re: Allergic to powder formula but not ready to feed?
I have heard of it happening. Was probably over on the 0-6 month board.
Could be something with the production process for the ready-mixed or as simple as the water you're using to mix it.
Ditto this exactly. DD's tummy would not tolerate the powdered formula bit did great on the rtf. Although, the rtf is expensive it is sooo much easier. You can also get good deals at BRU by the case and w/their coupons.
Both of my kids have been formula fed since the beginning. Both had issues processing Enfamil and Similac (the iron formulation was a little strong for them)
I had issues with the powder in the beginning too and only used bottled water at room temp. That seemed to help.
Now Aerin all of sudden had problems digesting the Regular Good Start Formula at 6 months. This happened right when we introduced solids.
She is doing fine on the gentle Good Start powder mixed with bottle water.
Not sure if that might help.
We were thinking the same thing- that maybe it's how they process it to make it a powder or something like that. We know it's not the water because we have used the same water (from the fridge) for months to mix his cereal. (I know many people use milk for that but my dr said to use water and that she wanted him to get used to other tastes than milk.) Everything else- bottles, solids, etc was the exact same so they were sure it was the powder.
