I've heard that the recommended amount is between 25-30 pounds for a singleton. I've already gained 15 pounds and I've got 3 1/2 more months when the weight really starts to pack on. Just curious....How much did you gain?
I saw on GMA or today's website that they just lowered the acceptable amounts....sorry I think it was on the early show's website. They say you should gain 10 lbs for overweight individuals - some crazy number like that.
I think ppl need to gain what they need to gain and everyone is different. My friend is 8 m and already gained more than 40 lbs and she is an super athlete - marathoner and still running while pg - so even during that she still gained that much.
I gained 17 in the first tri! I got yelled at. Gained 42 lbs. and was diagnosed w/ GD, lost 10 and gained back 6 for a total of 38 lbs. but I don't count really since we delivered 7 weeks early.
Our miracle IVF baby - D 6/09 & J - Surprise! born 9/10!!!
I've easily gained 40 lbs so far and I keep asking my doctor if she's concerned and she's not. I started out very thin (about 5'3 and 106 lbs) so she wanted me to gain a little more than the "normal" range.
But still - 40 lbs on a little girl like me is a TON.
36 lbs!! I was shooting for 25, then 30, then 35...oh well! fortunately they're long gone now!
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.

Life is beautiful!
You haven't seen anything yet - I gained 62 pounds! Now, 30 of that was gone in the first week, but that is a lot of weight. I was on restricted duty the second half of my pregancy, but that is not an excuse it was from all the donuts I ate. The good news is that all that weight, plus an additional 7 pounds is gone.
On another note - my doctor never said a word about my weight, even when I asked.
TTC since 10/06 - Went to RE after 6 months of TTC due to AMA -Diagnosed with MIF 5/07, only option IVF with ICSI - IVF #1 cancelled due to cyst, never got to ER - IVF #1.5 10/07, BFP - Robert Andrew born 7/30/08
I gained a lot in the 2nd tri but then I kind of stopped for a while. I gained 21 pounds by 23 weeks. Then I didn't gain anything for 6 weeks. They were actually getting concerned because i wasn't gaining. At 29 weeks I was put in the hospital for PTL and lost 10 pounds! I spent about a month gaining that back. The last few weeks (33-36) I gained 7 pounds of water weight (while on bedrest) so a total of 28 pounds. I still have 15 pounds to lose (this has been hard for me).
I gained about 35 lbs and it was mainly in the last few months of pregnancy. I know women who have put on weight early and not gained a ton in the last few months, too.
20lbs, but i am?overweight?to begin with. ?i only gained about 3 lbs in the 1st tri, maybe 6 in the 2nd, i put on the most weight in the 3rd. ?you would never have known i was pregnant until about 7 months. but again, i'm overweight, and everyone will gain differently. ?i've lost all the weight, but my muffin top still sux!

I gained 45 lbs .... all b/c I had the "I am pregnant I can eat whatever I want" mentality. I'm still working on lose the last 5 - although I have about 10 more to lose to get back to my pre-IF weight.
I gained 35 pounds. . . but that was in addition to the 45 pounds that I put on during my 3 injectible IUI cycles. I lost all of my baby weight within 3 weeks, but I am only 4 pounds down on the IF weight.
My doctor never said anything about my weight gain--and clearly I started out overweight. He said that as long as the baby is developing properly, he was not concerned.

I gained a LOT right about where you are. It was pretty steady at about +2lbs per month until about 20 weeks. Between my 20 week appt and my 25 week appt, I gained about 10-15lbs. From 25 weeks to now, I've been gaining about 2lbs every 2 weeks. So I definitely had a big jump between 20-25 weeks, and now things are slowing back down again. As long as your doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't either. Just try and make healthy choices.
ABC, I'm up 15-17 pounds or so too. I'm most concerned about staying active and eating relatively well. I still indulge more than I should, but I figure that continuing to exercise and trying to stay in moderate shape should make losing extra weight easier after birth.
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
My ob was never concerned about my weight gain. He cautioned me at my 21w appointment that I would most likely have a big baby (over 8 lbs). Conor was 9lb 9oz...
I was up 31 lbs at my appt last week. I had really wanted to keep my weight gain to 30 lbs, so I'm pretty happy with that. I'm only really concerned because I have a history of being overweight, lost that weight six years ago and have maintained a healthy weight since then. So staying healthy through pregnancy, weight-wise, wsa important to me both physically and psychologically.
Otherwise, I say eat healthy, indulge once in a while, and as long as both you and your practitioner are happy with your weight gain, try not to worry too much about it.
The only time my OB said anything was when I jumped up like 13lbs. in 1 month (can't remember which month that was), but at that point I got the "water is your friend" talk because I had been downing lemonade like nobody's business to help with m/s.
Whoopsie. I don't feel too bad though - my mom gained 50lbs. with me AND my brother (and we're not twins)! It also really and truly seems to be mostly belly since both babies are over 6 pounds now.
I have only gained 6lbs total since my BFP, but I had plenty of extra IF weight to begin with. I also had m/s for 20w and a terrible stomach flu 2 weeks ago. My OB is recommending I stay around 15lbs gained and I am hoping that is realistic for me. My appetite is pretty small these days.

Everyone is so different. I have gained 39 lbs. so far... I'll be 34 weeks this Friday. But I am also 5'11" and my BMI started at 18.5. I plan on gaining close to 45-50. But I feel very healthy- (and my Dr. agrees)- so this is what matters. I work out still at the gym 5 days a week.
Re: How much weight did you gain during pregnany?
I think 30 something, but i was on bedrest.

25lbs
I would have liked a little less, but was on bed rest for 4 months so I guess I cannot complain
I tipped the scales at 57 pounds gained.
I lost 25 from the time I went into the hospital in active labor to the day I went home and have lost all but 5 of the rest.

40 for me! most if it is long gone but I'm still sporting a puffy belly.

I gained in excess of 50 lbs with my first...but I went on bedrest at 25 weeks, which didn't help anything.
It's really hard to only gain the "recommended" amount of weight...my exercise plummets and I eat what I want.
Sounds like you are doing great so far!

50lbs. UGH.

27lbs with DD, but I had only gained 11lb. at 26w. DD was then IUGR, so I had to start eating lots and was put on modified rest.
So far, I've gained none. My OB told me I should only gain 15 lbs, so I'm crossing fingers on that.
Glad you have gotten responses to this question. I asked this several weeks ago, and hardly anyone responded.
