3rd Trimester

Heat rash on top of thigh chafing and sciatic nerve pain.

I'm almost down to the last 3-4 weeks, and my shorts are just slightly too tight and my capris are slightly too hot thanks to the hot flashes I get that leave me drenched in sweat.  So I've been wearing skirts that I bought at a second-hand shop.  The only trouble is that I had thigh rubbage even before I got pregnant, and at work yesterday, we took the camp kids on a walk.  My OB pointed out that the pain and swelling I was having at the tops of my thighs the week before (and is still there) is a heat rash.  So by the time I got home, my inner thighs were red from chafing and the heat rash was extra bad.  And then my sciatic nerve pain kicked in, so I was doing this awesome waddle/limp around the house all night.  Luckily my husband could tell I was going to cry if he laughed, so he was very sympathetic.

I've read someone say that Monistat has some sort of cream that helps thigh rubbage, but is that in stores, or just online? And does anyone have any tips for sciatica or heat rashes?  I've tried tennis balls, yoga, massage, etc for the sciatica so far and nothing really helps.

  • Get Body Glide.  You might have to go to a sport's store like ***'s, but it's great stuff.  I use it for running marathons and triathlons (now I've been using it when I wear skirts or dresses  lol) - it's way better than vasoline for preventing chub rub and protecting already chafed skin.

I had some bad hip pain and found walking or swimming to really help.  At first I could barely limp from the bed to the bathroom, then I figured if it was going to hurt at least I should give it a reason to hurt  lol

Hope you feel better soon  :)

Thank you!  There's a ***'s not too far from me, and a lake for swimming as well.  That's a really good idea, actually, because I've been feeling sad from not being able to walk as much with the thigh pain.  Now to just get up my courage to put on my maternity suit...

  • Not sure how much help I am, but I am also having some severe chaffing issues.  I started out by using Johnson's Medicated baby powder down in that area, but it wasn't helping any.  I mentioned it to my oB at my last appt and he suggested using Desitin instead.  So I did, but it actually made it much worse!  I called to let him & the nurse know & they called me in a perscription for a medicated powder.  I have been using it 2-3x a day for a week now and nothing seems to be working.  I go for an appt tomorrow and I am going to ask him to check things out down there to see how bad they really are and what the next steps are.  I am just worried that if I can't get it cleared up it will affect a normal vag. delivery.  I don't know that, but I'm going to ask!

It sucks b/c if you think about it is almost impossible to keep that area dry between sweat, drizzles, discharge, etc.  Sad

  • I use the Monistat simply because it is also good around the bikini area as well as the thigh area.  I got mine at Kmart so I am assuming that it is available at all drug stores too.
  • I wear bike shorts underneath all of my skirts and dresses..and it REALLY helps.

I haven't had a problem with shorts and pants...

  • Buy this for the chafinghttps://www.monistat.com/soothing-care-powder-gel it really works and I purchased it from Target. Best of all it works in one application. GL!
