If you have been fingerprinted for your job...

Could that count toward the home study?  I'm in NJ and both my husband and I have had our digital fingerprints done through Sagem Morpho for our jobs.  We both work with children and have been cleared to do so.  Would this "count" or would we have to have another set done?

Re: If you have been fingerprinted for your job...

  • Ours had to be through the FBI and our background checks were through the state.  So I guess it would depend on what's needed to qualify in your particular state.

  • For our agency (in California) we had to get fingerprinted specifically for them. My dh has been fingerprinted numerous times for different teaching jobs, but he couldn't use those.
  • My agency said I could use my work fingerprints but changed their minds the week before our approval meeting.  Just go ahead and get them redone.

  • previous fingerprinting didnt count for us and we had to get them done again
  • I am a dual counselor (professional and school) and have been finger printed (Ink and Digital) multiple times - just part of what comes with the field....and I have never been able to re-use my finger prints. (I wish, 50 dollars a pop adds up!).

I've always been told that agencies do not / are not allowed to share finger prints. I don't know if that's a state thing or just in general across the board?

  • We did fbi and state. I have them from my job but was not allowed to reuse them for the HS. Interestingly though my school would have let me use the hs ones for them except they are only good for one year anyway and the work ones weren't due until after that. So, yeah, lots of $$ on fingerprints.

Yup, you'll have to get them redone.  I work for the state legislature, and have researched this exact topic.  In keeping with confidentiality laws and rules, fingerprints are not shared, even at the request of the individual.  It's a pain, but you'll just have to get them done again.

  • I'm a teacher and been fingerprinted at least 3 times.  I had to do one for the homestudy and then we had to do it again for our update a year later through the FBI and the state.

  • Hey - just wanted to say HI from another NJ gal.  Anyway - both my husband and I have been finger-printed for our jobs.  It did not matter, it had to get done again.

For us, we were able to get an appointment really quickly and the results came back pretty fast.

    Good Luck in your journey

  • Thanks everyone!  I'll add that to our list.  Do we wait for a request from an agency or can we just try to get them done on our own and hold on to the letter for the agency?

Wait until you get the paperwork from the agency. They may have a very specific vendor they use who reports the results directly to them. You're so eager!!

    ?

  • Haha well I'm a teacher and I coach in the fall and DH also coaches, so this is our "off" season.  I wanted this to be done by the end of summer but I got very sick and had to go to the hospital in July! Oh well, there's always a reason.  I'm also very impatient.
  • My husband and I both have been fingerprinted for our jobs and we still had to get them done for our agency.  DH is even a police officer and they still had to them again

this! Plus, for our agency, they had the cards pre-filled out with specific numbers and such that were for them and the adoption.

  • WAit on agency and have them redone. We had to do state and FBI on also.
