? re: riding in car

DD now rides with me to work for daycare because it is right across the street from my work.  We drive about 25 min each way.  At first I hated this because I figured she was bored.  Now that she is FF she likes it better and we interact more.  She doesn't talk much yet, but my question is as she gets older will this time in the car together get more enjoyable for the both of us, or more annoying (whining, ect.)

A daycare has opened up by our house, which would be nice, but I sore of feel like we might miss that time together. WDYT?

  • I love, love, love the time with my DD on the way to work.  DD is not really fond of the car, but it's getting better with age.  We sing, talk, make animal noises, laugh.  Even when she's fussing, it's 45 mins a day that I am glad I have.

Also, for Dr. apts and going on erronds after school, this location (by work) is much better than the location by home.

  • It gets both better and worse. It is much more fun when she's in a good mood, but if she is unhappy it is much worse. I recommend having food in the car. I keep a package of individually packaged raisins in the glove compartment just in case.?

  • I agree.  We have a little lunch box with several varieties of 100 calorie packs to suit her moods.
  • Thanks for the advice.  I plan on stashing an Ipod in with me for days when traffic is bad.
  • I LOVE riding in the car with DS at this age.  We sing, listen to music, dance.  He also has started to observe what's going on outside of the car and he tells me what he sees.  He's become fascinated with traffic lights and yells GREEN LIGHT! or RED LIGHT! from the back seat.  He loves to look out the window and point out bicycles, motorcycles, and loves it when it's raining.  He makes sure I know what's going on around us at all times.  I love it.  :)  "Mama, it's raining!"  "Mama, bicycle!"  "Mama, puppy!"

That being said I also have to make sure to have a snack in the car when I pick him up from daycare.  He's usually starving!
