Dress question

I'm trying to really slim down what I'm buying dd this season (dh took a 10% pay cut last year and they are cutting another 10 this year).  So that being said, I'm bought a really cute dress for dd last season at Kohl's for 4.97.  It will be her Christmas dress.  Well she will have a Valentine's Day Father/Daughter and I was thinking that maybe the dress would be ok for that as well (It is a dressy event).  The dress on the top is black velvet and on the bottom it is red with small black flower details and a really pretty red bow.  I'm thinking that it would be ok for both occasions and I won't have to shell out more money. What do you think?

I just checked the whole dress over to make sure there isn't any "Christmasy" on it and nope it just has the small black flowers.  I just don't want to spend money on a dress that she'll wear once or twice and outgrow.
