I feel a chest cold coming on. It's rattling, etc. I am exhausted so I am going to go to bed after Big Brother (addict here). Don't want to call the doc because it's 5 here and the office is closed. Anyone know what's safe to take?
I only was "allowed" to take Tylenol and Benadryl. All depends on what your doc says, they are all different. Maybe try dropping a spoonful of Vicks in a pot of boiling water and breathe? That usually did the trick for me ....

Okay so get this..DH, who is a monster when it comes to not letting me take anything at all while pregnant, went to the pharmacy to get liquid Vicks for me to boil and breathe. The pharmacist said it wasn't safe. Whaaat? He found one of his own kind in the pharmacist. He came home empty handed and told me to just sleep it off. So depressing.
OOh jen...so sad. That happened to me. My dr told me to take Benedryl and the pharmacist said thats insane. SO I was only allows saline nose drops for my stuffy head. So sorry!

Saline was all the quack pharmacist told quack DH that I could take. How on earth is that going to clear chest congestion? Nose, yes. Chest? Bah.
I can't make any recommendations on a cold medicine, but I will say watch your symptoms. I got very sick a few days ago with a really really bad sinus infection. It was crazy hot much quicker this cold/infection came on than compared to when I am not pregnant. Usually I can get well in a few days with lots of vitamin C, cold meds, and rest. But this time with in 2 days I was on a Z-pack and was out for a full week. Baby takes a huge part of our immune system! Take Care of yourself and call your doc in the am!
Jennifer.. you're probably already in bed.. but my doc gave me a sheet of "okay to take" drugs for all kinds of things.... plus I had a pretty bad head cold last month.
Her advice... Dayquil is just fine... but not Nyquil. Forms of Tylenol Cold & Flu is good, too. Not sure if that will help with the chest cold, tho. Sudafed is also on my okay list, believe it or not!
Then, there's always chicken soup!

awww, Jen, that's too bad. I ended up having about 5 colds when I was pegnant and my doc was not conservative at all, she even once prescribed a Z-pack for me! yeah right, sorry but I wasn't taking that! Thankfully, I was always more cautious than she was and sought the help of other docs. Soooo what did your doc say? also, see below, it may be helpful:
She called me and told me I could take Claritin D. I told her I was shocked because she always told me I couldn't take anything with a letter after it. She said I am so close to delivery and Jace is fully formed, etc, so she was okay with it. As you can imagine, my hugely conservative DH was not. So I did nothing. Just a shower and bed. Ugh. I feel a bit better today but not that great. I am staying home today and will just work from here.
Jen, I'm sorry you are sick!! Have DH go to Chick Fil A and get you a bowl of chicken noodle soup, and then sneak the Claritin D in while he is gone. Hopefully you will feel better in no time.

K- I don't feel good
I am making a note to myself right now to make sure that if I send DH to the drugstore he is not allowed to tell the pharmacist I am pg!
I have a list of 35 things that can be taken in the 2nd & 3rd tri. Let me know if you still need any of these!
Oh and these can only be taken for a maximum of 1 week.
Thanks Shannon. Believe it or not, DH just made me page my doctor. This is ridiculous. I'd kill for some Vicks Vapo Rub.
Argh.
