I know this question is getting old, but I'm really at a loss. DS is still eating mostly purees at 11 months old, though he eats some mini waffles/pancakes for breakfast with his puree most days. I guess my biggest hurdle is his constipation. He gets REALLY constipated and miserable if he eats anything binding, and then nothing helps, not prunes, juice, etc. So, we stay away from constipating foods. I haven't wanted to do anything with cheese, like mac and cheese or grilled cheese because of how binding cheese could be, and I'm having trouble coming up with breakfast, lunch and dinner options that will not be constipating for DS. He also just got his first tooth last week, but its barely through the gum and you can only see a tiny sliver. Other than the mini waffles/pancakes and puffs, he's not eating many finger foods/table foods and he's not far from turning a year old.
Please give me non-constipating age appropriate suggestions for breakfast, lunch and dinner for an 11 month old. TIA?
Re: Need meal ideas for 11 month old
How much water is he drinking during the day? We found that by giving DS water during his meals (a few oz per meal), it helped him with his constipation.
Scrambled egg yolk- I put the yolk in a dish and microwave until done. You can add all sorts of stuff to that- any pureed or sauteed veggie or meat. The gerber meat sticks are also really soft.
I also make meat and veggie patties. Ground protein (turkey, pork chicken, whatever), whatever veggie, and potato flakes for a binder. Make into a pattie and bake. These freeze well and travel well.
We give DS tofu almost every night as part of his dinner.
We also blanch veggies and give lots of fruit (raspberries are the fav so far).
You could also cook a turkey hot dog (even in the microwave) and cut that up for him (we take off the skin).
We are going to start giving a little more deli type meat. You could also get a rotisserie chicken if you don't want to cook & shred chicken yourself.
Do you give any puffs? Mum-mums?
We give DD yogurt at breakfast and cut up a banana or cantelope. She has constipation issues too, so we mix 1.5 ounces of prune juice into each of her bottles (4x/day).
For lunch we give her a piece of cheese and a piece of deli meat - either turkey or chicken.
For dinner we just cut up whatever we're having into small pieces and she pretty much eats it. She's liked ravioli, asparagus, loves pork/turkey/chicken, will eat pieces of biscuit/muffin/cornbread.
We also give her puffs and cheerios as snacks.
I am having the opposite issue with my 11 month old- solids, esp. dairy are giving him diahrea, so I will tell you what I am "avoiding"- blueberries (tons of fiber!) and other fruits- watermelon, cantelope, peaches, plums, (all in small pieces). Greenbeans and carrots. Tater tots, mashed potatoes, pasta salad.
Binding to me is bananas, bread, apples, rice, baked potato, plain toast- so I would avoid those if I were you.
