Help! Potty trained but not poop trained?

We are having such a hard time with our 3 yo foster son, he has been potty trained for about 2 months but simply is not poop trained.  It's very difficult when it creates a huge mess.  In the beginning he did tell us when he had to poop, and now he's just stopped.

Any advice? Suggestions?  We have him in big boy underwear and don't want to switch back to diapers/pull ups, but it's much harder to clean up the mess this way!

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Re: Help! Potty trained but not poop trained?

  • It took DS a couple months after he was pee trained to get the pooping right.  I really don't have much advice.  We would just keep a constant eye on him and when he was farting a lot and we knew he hadn't pooped in a while we would just make him sit on the toilet until he pooped.  Sometimes we would catch him in the act and grab him and throw him on the pot to finish up.  Once he pooped a couple times in the toilet he figured out it wasn't so bad and stopped.
