Adoption

Foster to Adoptive parents, please come in

Greetings, Good Morning, Hello!

I have a quick question for you guys.  As, we're (God-Willing) getting close to being licensed I was wondering if you guys had a brief out line of average times that hearings / etc occur.

So for example, Week 1 x happens, day 30 this hearing happens, etc.

I know it can vary from case to case, but I was just wanting to keep a general outline in my planner so I know when to expect things to happen. Do you guys know of any websites where I can find this?

TIA!

  • fredlina beat me to the punch. :)

However, there can be a lot of "PPT meetings" (permenancy placement team meetings) in which you can attend to update on the children. we're very proactive foster parents and we try to attend every one we can - when I say "we" i mean DH. :) It's the one thing he knows he has to do since I'm at home with the kids and have various appts. I send him with my notes and he adds to them. He normally reports back everything that was said. We just had one a few weeks ago and they were discussing the status. I know there's an official court date in October for TPR, and we're invited to attend that one. Most of the time the actual court hearings are 5 minute things, and its placed on the doc in order of which all people are in attendance (lawyers and caseworkers).

To take the discussion of "plans" a step furter, as we're a therapuetic foster home, we have "Plans of Service" for the children as well. They typically have 3 goals that they have to work on. I can use my oldest as an example - the has completed 2 of her 3 original goals (lying and speaking up for herself), and now we've added 2 new goals for her. There's lots of plans, hearings, appointments. Just be prepared!

  • I know it differs from state to state, but THANK YOU for giving me a heads up on some of the information :) I will be book marking this post!
