MH and I have a wonderful baby boy. I did carry him, but having another child may lead to my death. DH and I are sad b/c we both so desperately wanted at least 1 more and we were wanting a girl. I am going back to school next year to get my degree. After I graduate, in about 4 years, we want to adopt.
What are the pros and cons of:
-International vs Home
-baby vs older
I did try looking some of the info up, but it's so overwhelming.
Re: Considering adoption
Start with Adoption for Dummies. It lays it out there for you so that you can better grasp what is available and what will fill your family.
Good luck with your journey.
MH and I are looking at/leaning towards international adoption of a non-caucasian baby/toddler.
With domestic, you are much more likely to get an infant (unless you do foster to adopt, which is not available in all states, and to which I will defer to Fredalina for her expertise).
More grants seem to be available for *some* domestic adoptions, though depending on the race of the baby and the country you choose, domestic can be more expensive. With domestic, you WILL likely have ongoing contact with the birthmom throughout the baby's life, which has its pros and cons (will defer to Captain Serious). With domestic, the e-mom chooses you, versus with international, you choose the baby.
Will be back throughout the day for more on this.Yes, that, and peruse this board.
Do you mean international vs domestic? There are no pros and cons, per se, just what works for you. Ditto for infant vs older. Some people prefer one vs the other, there's no wrong way.
Ditto the pp in reading a book like Adoption for Dummies. They really lay out the different types of adoption and can help you decide what's best for you and your family.
Keep asking questions! This board is a great resource.
