Any tummy time tips?

DD will be 2 months old tomorrow, and she still hasn't been able to lift her head or roll over during tummy time.  She can lift her head off our shoulders so that it's straight up and down and sometimes even pulls it far back to look up at the ceiling (which she finds enthralling for some reason), but she just can't seem to do it while on her tummy.

We try to give her at least 5 minutes of tummy time every day, but sometimes end up missing a day or two a week due to hectic schedules.

She fusses a little bit, but more often just lays there, resigned to the stupid position we've put her in.

Any tips on how to have more productive tummy time?  Anyone else's LO having issues lifting their heads?

Re: Any tummy time tips?

  • We put DS on the boppy for tummy time; if he's on the floor he can't lift his head, but he does great on the boppy.

  • Have you tried getting her attention with something like a rattle?
  • We start him on his back on a blanket and hold a mirror for him. After 10 min. or so we do tummy time until he gets upset. he likes to push his feet against our hands and slide across the blanket.

  • Do you have a changing table & pad DS always did way better on the changing table not sure why. But it can't hurt to try.

  • Try propping her up on a boppy or something similar.  We also would put dd on the bed and we would sit on the floor so she was eye to eye with us.

And fwiw, dd is almost 5 months old and still isn't rolling.  The pedi isn't concerned-he thinks she can roll but she just has no interest in doing it!

  • I lay across from DS on the floor.
  • Try to do it more frequently. I really made an attempt to get her on her belly between each nap. Even if its only for a minute.

Use the boppy, or a rolled receiving blanket under her chest. As she gets stronger, phase them out.

Get down on her level and talk with her
