Part of me says no, don't push it but the other part of me thinks that she will regret it later if I don't push her.

Is she smoking?  I quit the swim team when I started smoking.  And dreaded the 6am practice.  I wish my parents would have forced me to do it.  I argued till the death and won.

Push a little harder...don't let her quit.  She needs to know that you can't just "quit" when you don't feel like it.

Tell her I said I regret not doing lots of things when I was her age.  Swim team would be one of them.  She needs to stick with it!  I promise!  Push mama, push!

Yeah, I wonder if something is going on like smoking or friend change too.  Try to figure it out (and smell the clothing and stand near her when she gets home to see if her hair smells too.  I hated raising a high school girl (my step-daughter), they are pains in the tush!

Does she have a reason she's telling you?

I know she'll regret it later but I also think it's hard for teens to have that much foresight.  My sister was like that but it was b/c of her after-school job.  Her bosses loved her and gave her a .25 raise to stay instead of going out for softball.  Extra money over long practices certainly won out. She does regret now not playing.
