artificial sweetners?

o.k. or not?

I like the packet of Equal in my (now decaffinated!) coffee... and due to taste preferences, I prefer diet soda, yogurt (with aspartame, not all that sugary stuff).

What do you think?  I plan to talk to Dr. about this at next appt.  But do you use the occasional sweetner?  Is this safe or not?

 Thanks!

My personal opinion is: the fewer chemicals in my body (thus in baby's body) the better. I would suggest a tad of raw sugar in your coffee, ditching the soda entirely, and buying plain yogurt and tossing in some real fruit.

I skipped them, but that was a personal choice.

I was told to avoid all artificial sweetners.

My doctor told me that if I want to use artificial sweeteners, use splenda and use it in moderation. ?I still drink diet coke though. ?

I know it's not easy going without a sweetner, but just think about all the research that has yet to be done on them...

Disclaimer: this link is somewhat disturbing but in case others out there want to know I'm posting the link to a site called my aspertame experiment.  The results speak for themselves.

Ew, that link was gross.  I was told to avoid artificial sweeteners by both my doctor and dentist.  My dentist supposedly read that it leads to more cavities and poor bone density.  I dunno though.  Natural ones like stevia should be fine though right?

however, if you want verifiable resources for study results, it is always better to go to *.org sites, rather than *.com's like the above.

    personally, i don't believe it.

I have cut them out as much as possible. I used to be the girl who'd have 2-3 mugs of coffee each morning (with splenda) and then continue my day with Diet Pepsi... I cut my caffeine intake down to 3-4 drinks per week. that said, I also have avoided diet pepsi (or any diet soda) completely. If you are going to have artificial sweetners, keep it as limited as much as possible. Maybe try stevia, I think someone already recommended that. :) Good luck, I know it's tough!
