Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Can a 10 month old have grilled chicken?

DD has had chicken, but in the baby food cookbook it said to bake or poach the chicken (I poached FWIW).  We will be going out this weekend and I know there will be grilled chicken.  Can she have that?  TIA!

  • Ehhhh I hope so because we have given her grilled chicken every time we eat it!

  • I don't think it would be a problem, but I would try to cut off any blackened grill marked areas.
  • I hope so too. DS loves it! I just give him the "inside" meat that has no grill marks, or charring.
  • Do your LOs all have teeth or are they able to gum it?   Mine 10 1/2 month old only has his 2 front bottom teeth and so I haven't given him anything this "chewy" or "hard".   If they gum it, how small of pieces do you give them?

Right around 9 mos, DD2 started eating what we were eating (mostly).  She only recently got her top teeth, so she's been gumming everything else with only two bottom teeth.  I make sure the pieces are small enough that if she swallowed them whole it would be fine.  She gums them, but doesn't necessarily chew them.

It takes a while to prep her food since I cut it so small (unless it is something mushy, like pasta), but it is so much easier to only prep one meal and not something different for her.
