Allergic to butter?

We tried a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner last night.  I made it with wheat bread, muenster cheese and butter.

DD woke up this morning w/ red puffy cheeks.  I initially thought it was just from sleeping on her face, but she still had it when we got to daycare adn they all thought it was a rash/reaction to the food.

Now, I'm trying to figure out what she's allergic too -

Butter was teh only totally new thing in the grilled cheese - she's had whole wheat pita before but not regular bread, is it possible she could react to the bread, but not pita?  We've had cheddar adn jack cheese before, but never muenster - could she have a reaction to just a different cow cheese - that seems sort of random, right?

It sounds like it had to be butter right?

Re: Allergic to butter?

  • i think it's the cheese. ?if you've cooked with butter before and she's never had that reaction, then i doubt it's butter. ?if she's never had muenster, then that is my guess.

  • Honestly, to me it sounds like it could be any of the three.  I would try giving her dry toast with that bread and/or a piece of the cheese by itself- once you ruled those out on their own- then I would assume the butter.
  • Actually, I wouldnt try any of it again... food allergies tend to be worse after the first exposure.. If it was the cheese then there is a possibility it could cause a worse reaction next time.. not to scare you. My dd has food allergies and had cheese, dairy stuff all the time and then one day- BAM- reaction.. they can happen even after eating something for the 100th time. If you really truly suspect a food allergy then Id take your LO to your pedi or an allergist to get tested.
