Adoption

The world just got so scary

My friend had her baby 2 Mondays ago and she had a beautiful baby boy.

Last week she was concerned that his eyes looked swollen and he cried alot; I told her babies tend to be like that but to keep an eye on it.

Well this morning she called me and asked how I got guardianship of Savannah etc- so I asked why.

They found out that her baby has bad kidney problems and that he is very ill and needs urgent care (that she cannot afford), so her sister wanted to adopt him (their desperate and throwing out ideas) so that her insurance will cover his surgeries.

I didn't know what to say or even how that works or if it's fraud I had no clue but all teary eyed I offered what information i could with my lawyer's number.

I just wanted to ask all of you to keep baby Dylan & his family in your prayers and thoughts- anything.

She is only 22 this is her first baby and she is so very scared; it must be the worst feeling in the world.

------

I will keep you updated.

  • She should apply for Medicaid/Medical Assistance for him. The hospital should have forms and if she is eligible it will cover any retroactive bills up to three months.

I never understand why more people don't do this.

We don't have that here- welcome to Barbados.

  • So sorry. I hope they find a way without having to have the child adopted to someone else.
  • Yeah, that sounds like fraud to me.

I hope that they find some solution.

  • oh man.. what a tough situation. He is in my prayers though!

  • Oh honey. I will keep Dylan and family in my prayers.

How do you send a PM round these parts? I have a suggestion that might work.

I think that having her sister adopt the baby to pay for his insurance *might* be fraud in the legal sense (here in the US it may be, but probably no jury would find anyone guilty), but certainly not anything morally or ethically wrong...
