Morning Routine?

Im going back to work and I was wondering if anyone could share their morning routine with me.  I havent really gotten the whole shower while DS is sleeping part down yet, he always seems to wake up midway through or right after so i end up running around with my wet hair in a towel for a few hours.  This obviously won't work in the am before work so if you have any suggestions on a routine please share!! TIA :)

Re: Morning Routine?

  • The trick that I have found is that I have to shower at night!  Once both kids are asleep I take a shower, then in the mornin I just have to striahten my hair and do my make-up.

I typically get up at 7:00

Elle wakes up (is she isn't awake already) get her set-up with breakfast

Wake up DH to go hang on the couch while DD eats breakfast (he gets home at 3am from work, so this totally sucks for him)

    Do my make-up, hair

    Feed Greyson

    Get dressed

load up my laprtop, pump and files

    hugs and kisses...out by 8:15am

  • Loading the player...
  • I get up around 6am and jump in the shower.  DH gets up around 6:15.

While I'm getting ready, he fixes her breakfast for daycare.  I get DD up around 6:45, get her dressed and then DH takes her for a walk with the dog while I finish getting ready.  DH leaves to do dropoff around 7:15 and I leave at the same time for work.

  • I have 2 kids to get up, but DD is 4 and sort of can fend for herself a bit...

5:45 wake up, get coffee, set up pump, let dog out, etc. Get DS out of crib

6:00 nurse DS, pump (this is for my extra supply)

6:30 eat something, pack bags, get DD up (DH showers at this time)

6:50 I shower, get dressed, DH throws my bags in my car and dresses the kids

7:15 in the car, out the driveway

7:35 drop kids off at daycare

    8:00 in my office

I do not wash my hair every morning (I can't--I have super dry hair) and all of this takes a lot of cooperation from DH.  If he goes to work early, I have to be all the more organized, and DS might spend some time in his crib or exersaucer while I'm in the shower.  When he was younger, I would put him in the bouncy chair and bring him in the bathroom with me.  I also pack as much as I can the night before and pick out outfits for everyone so there is no time rooting through drawers for a missing sock, etc.

At first it was hectic.  I actually wrote down a checklist that sat on the kitchen table so I remembered everything.  Now it is automatic.  You'll figure out your own routine!

  • I EP.  I shower at night.  I do as much as I can at night inc. lunch, bottles, bags by the door, etc.

    0545 - Get up

    0600 - Pump

    0630 - Get ready

0650 - Get DS up, feed bottle, get him dressed

    0715 - Leave the house

  • Here's our routine:

5:00am - Get up and pump
    5:30am - Shower
5:45am - DH gets up and makes the bed
6:00am - Get DD up, DH gets her dressed for school
6:15am - Nurse DD while I eat cereal
    6:30am - Leave for work
7:00am - DH takes DD to school

I do the bottles and my lunch the night before, as much as possible.  Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people who can shower before bed... I need my shower in the morning.

  • When DD was that little, I would shower at night or just get up after her feeding that was closest to the time I would ordinarily wake up anyway.  If DH was home, he would handle her while I got ready.  When he wasn't, I'd wait until after she was fed and park her in the bouncy seat.  I knew from the minute I had her in the bouncy seat until about when she got fussy I had about 20 minutes.  In that time, I could shower, partially dry my hair and get ready.  The times I showered while she was still sleeping were a gamble -- sometimes it worked out, sometimes it didn't, so depends on how adventurous you were feeling.  Good news is that their schedules tend to get a bit more predictable as they get older.

  • when Carson was little our routine was this:

dh and i both woke up at 6:30 am and showered. Carson almost always slept through me getting ready - we were lucky in this dept.

7:15 i would wake him and get him dressed, get him in the car seat and dh and i would leave at the same time.  he would drop off Carson at sil's and that is when he had his first bottle for the day.  i always had everthing ready to go the night before (diaper bag, lunches, etc...)

  • We trade off days going to the gym - we get up to go around 5:30 a.m. Home by just before 7. DD wakes up around then and the person who stayed home will feed her and get her lunch ready while the other showers, then we swap. After breakfast, one of us will get her dressed and let her play in her room. I'll usually take a bowl of cereal in with me - she loves to share it with me and eat it off my spoon. My clothes are all in her closet so I'll get dressed while she's playing. DH usually drops her off at school since it's right by his office. Ideally, we're out the door between 8 and 8:15. We have short commutes and both of us can be at our offices in 10 minutes. It's a crazy morning but we make it work!
  • DD is up by 6am and DH usually leaves the house by 6:30 so it's just me and her all morning until the nanny arrives.  I still put her in her bouncy and bring her in the bathroom with me to shower.  She seems fine with it since it's been part of our morning routine for a few months now.  So the schedule is basically:

    6am-ish

7am-ish DD gets bottle and playtime

    8:15ish  Dress DD and playtime

  • Two alternative schedules:

    Version 1-

6:30-7:30-I wake up and get in the shower; get dressed; make coffee; put on make up, let hair partially dry.

7:30-7:50-DD wakes up, I feed her, put her in swing or hand her over to my mom (who is our "nanny") or hangs out in bed with DH

    (7:45-Nanny/Mom arrives)

7:50-8:00-dry hair, grab coffee, kisses goodbye

    Version 2-

6:30-7:00-DD wakes up and I nurse her.  DD goes in swing or hangs out in bed with DH

    (7:45 Nanny arrives)

7:00-8:00-get shower, get dressed, make up and hair; kisses goodbye
