F/U : Convincing DH to CD (Kinda long)

Soo first of all, THANK YOU ladies so much for the positive reinforcement and great info about the benefits of CDing. I haven't had the chance to run it by FI yet, because he is on a boat in the middle of the ocean being silly, but when I get a phone call next week, I'm going to drop the bomb.

After reading all of the info on the sites, and hearing the input from you ladies, it's going down like this....

Me: Jeff, I have decided we are using cloth diapers. End of discussion.

FI: Yes dear, I think you are brilliant and that is such a good idea! I'm glad you can make money-saving decisions without me, and Stella's hiney will be so much happier.

Ok, so maybe this is my fantasy of how it will go, but I talked to MIL and she thinks he will go for it - so we'll see!

By the way - I've spent all afternoon researching, and decided to try the GDiaper with the GCloth inserts, and the compostable liners for when we're on the go... has anyone had experiance with these?? WDYT

Thanks for listening ladies, I'm loving the love on the AP board :)

Re: F/U : Convincing DH to CD (Kinda long)

  • I actually LOL when I read your fantasy conversation. I probably won't have too much of a choice when it comes to CDing, my DH was allergic to diapers, his sister (my SIL) was allergic to diapers and now my little niece (SIL's baby) is also allergic, so there is a fair chance that our kids will be allergic as well. At first I was a little freaked out at the thought of using CD but after watching my SIL do it with my niece, I have been so relieved to see how easy it seems to be. My SIL loves it. Saves her a lot of money and CD seem to have come a LONG way over the years. Needless to say I'm not too worried about it anymore, in fact even if our future children are not allergic, I might choose to do it anyways just for the cost and eco benefits! Good luck!

  • We use GDiapers (with prefolds inside sometimes, and the regular compostables the rest of the time) and really love them.

We haven't gotten the GCloth inserts, because Miss Isabella is pretty much potty trained (!) ~ super early!!

A few things: if your LO has skinny legs, the smalls might not be small enough ~ they are prone to leaks on smaller newborns. We didn't have that issue with Isabella (she was 9 lbs, 6 oz at birth!)... but just so you know.

If you have any issues or problems, call their 800 number. They're fantastic, really... including calling about leaks around newborns' legs. They have strategies and can really help.

Also, for more help, there's a GDiapers users group on Yahoo. They're pretty fantastic.

There is a learning curve with them - especially if you're going to be flushing them. The more you flush, the better at it you get... biggest hint ~ make sure the thing is breaking up before you flush, rip around all sides well to accomplish this.

Also, join the GMum/GDad program... they send you great free stuff... from them, I have tons of $5 coups for them if you buy them in stores... if you want me to mail you some, PM me.

Good luck... if you have questions or issues about them once you start using them, page me here...

  • That's about how my fantasy convo's go, too!

Good thing you've got MIL on your side. I say if he puts up a fight, Tag Team Him!  Wink

    Good luck!

  • We have used GDiapers w/the compostable liner for when we are traveling. The things I don't like about them are how expensive they are and that poop always gets on the plastic liner.
