Pregnant after 35

Tired, but can't sleep?

I know that sleep is so important while your pregnant, but I can't sleep! I have been experiencing more fatigue than usual and thought I would be sleeping like a baby? When I go to bed my mind starts racing. Anyone else experience the same in the early 1st tri? I guess it's all the excitement and anxiety.

Re: Tired, but can't sleep?

  • I have found that during my pregnancy if I do not exercise I do not sleep.  I did exercise before I got pregnant, but now for some reason if I go 2 days without exercising I wake up at 3:30 or 4:00 AM and do not go back to sleep.  Exercising is saving me from walking around like a total zombie.

If you are not already on a regular work-out routine, ask your doctor before beginning one.  I recommend power walking, elliptical and stair-master.  They are all easy to maintain throughout your entire pregnancy.  I am not saying go crazy and become a work-out maniac, but just try to so sort of physical activity for about 45 minutes a day.

    Good Luck!

PS:  The reason I am responding at 6:00am is because I haven't exercised in 2 days due to a crazy schedule.  I have been on the go with work and errands and very busy, but haven't exercised so I woke up at 4:00 and here I am!

  • yes!  i couldn't sleep a whole night through forever in 1st tri.  wks 10-11 i was able to, but now i'm back to waking.  ugh!!!  i was intrigued by the pp concerning exercising.  i was an avid gym-goer before BFP, but since, i've been utterly exhausted and just can't do anything.  i'm starting my 13th wk this upcoming wk and hope i start to feel better!  it'll be interesting to see if i do in fact sleep better b/c of exercising.  anyway, i feel for ya!
  • It'll get better!  Of course, it'll get worse again, too...

  • Oh yea, i've gone through that in phases for sure. It's like as soon as the light goes out--my brain goes ON! not fair!! lol. It definitely comes and goes though. I've found that making a big list of things I want to do or need to do has helped me out. That way I don't feel lilke i have to remember everything that's flying around in my head. Hope you're able to get some rest soon!
  • Thanks for the helpful insights!
