rec your tummy time mat, please!

We're obviously big supporters of tummy time, and the mat that I get I would like to be appropriate for pulling up in a situation like this:

I'll have the mirrors and bat set up from birth so that whenever Bunny is ready it's there and we're not behind. So a firmer mat is preferable, since we've got hardwoods.

I know babies wipe out, but since I'm starting with a tummy time mat anyway...you see where I'm going with this Big Smile

  • I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for I guess. Most the tummy time mats I've of are like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tiny-Love-Gymini-Super-Deluxe/dp/B000067K0L/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1250388077&sr=8-7 so definitely won't protect against a wipe out. We have hard floors too and used foam mats like this for M's play area when he started crawling, pulling up, etc.: https://www.softnsafe.com/

  • any mat is fine, the key is the amount of time you devote to the tummy time. And the other stuff seems unnecessary to me, most babies learn to pull themselves up and "cruise" on the furniture by about 9-11 months without any bars or mirrros. You may want to save your money and just start with the mat. I got the same one I think that the PP recommended and also a little one as a gift to use outdoors at picnics. I like it so I kept it even though I had one already.

  • The bar might get skipped (still trying to figure out the logistics of making it secure enough on the wall) but there will always be a mirror by the movement mat to help Bunny learn about movement in relation to his/her body.  Also it'll help light the corner we'll be using, which is currently rather dark.

    Thanks for the links!

  • I would personally go with a "play mat" instead of a specific tummy time nap. Play mats are useful for tummy time AND time spent on their back. In the beginning, tummy time doesn't last very long, so you want something interesting for them to look up at when laying down and playing with you.

We have the Baby Einstien one and Madison LOVED it. The sun that played music was her fist favorite toy. It did break, however. :(

Ditto.  We do tummy time on the play mat... and just a blanket.  We have this... and hardly used it.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean about having the mat for them they are learning to stand.  But I would think that and thicker blanket/quilt would work.  That's what we use.
