Adoption

Sarrogate questions-

I'm seriously thinking about becoming a sarrogate mom. I recently gave birth and truly realized what a  wonderful gift a baby is and how fortunate I am and how others aren't and started thinking about giving the gift to someone else. Any advice???

Re: Sarrogate questions-

  • You should speak with a lawyer who specializes in surrogacy agreements and receive counseling.

FYI -- surrogacy is only adoption in the instance of traditional surrogacy (TS) where your egg is used with either donated sperm or the potential father's sperm.  Most states require that even if you have a surrogacy agreement, you still have to terminate your rights (since the egg was yours and you gestated it) and the baby has to be legally adopted.

Gestation surrogacy (GS) is an arrangement where you are implanted with an embryo that is composed of either the potential parent's egg and sperm, or donated egg and sperm, or some combination thereof, but the embryo is in no way related to you.  A surrogacy agreement is signed, and you would have no claim on the baby and no adoption proceedings are necessary.

  •  I've been doing some research the last few weeks on surrogacy and this helps. Thank you!

Visit surromomsonline.com - great resource with a great message board. You will need to decide if you want to do traditional surrogacy(TS) or gestational surrogacy (GS). Along with whether you will work with an agency/attorney that will ensure that you are legally and financially protected as well as set-up all the of the medical and psych testing and treatment.

This is not the board IMO for this topic though. Good luck in your research! It is a process that requires much research and consideration. It can take awhile to get prepared for the process not to mention finding the right 'match' with the 'intended' parents.

Since there's no "gestational carrier" board on the Bump, i think it's fine to post here.  Another good resource would be the Trouble TTC board, as some of the women there are using or considering using gestational carriers.

I super-puffy <3 you, Fred!  Your posts always make me smile.

I agree with looking for an attorney who specializes in this field.  I know our adoption attorney also specializes in assisted reproduction topics.  I'll post his website here - perhaps he has a contact or colleague in your area that may be able to assist you?

2 years TTC with 5 losses, 1 year recovering, 6 months applying for adoption approval, and almost a year waiting for a placement. Then, a miracle BFP at age 36!

  • We have considered using a GC (a family member) B/c of my asherman's ...fortunately, my lining seems to be healing so we will be trying on our own for a few cycles b/f deciding on taking that route..(at one point we were told we have no other option)

I agree that you should visit T-TTC....i know of atleast one other girl over there that has used a GC...Also, try paging MayBride on PAL..She works directly with surrogates and GCs...she was a wealth of info while we were going through the process of deciding...Every state has very different laws when it comes to this topic..i would also recommend looking into them..NJ i have found has some of the worst laws regarding this topic..lots and lots of red tape!

GL! I think what you are thinking about doing is VERY beautiful and selfless!

  • I used a GC (my cousin) during my last cycle and would be happy to talk to you more about it if you'd like.
