Getting pregnant with long cycles - success stories, please!

I have long cycles (45 days), and from what I can tell (through CM and CP), I O around CD 28-30.

I have just started TTC, and I made a mistake googling "Getting Pregnant with Long Cycles."  I came across some articles/sites that were prettty depressing.

Please share your success story GP!

Much appreciated!

Are your cycles regular (even though they are long)?  Are you charting?  If so, do your temps rise and stay high in the luteal phase for at least 10 days?

Generally, long cycles can be a sign of PCOS.  I would try for about 6 cycles and then if no success, go to an OB to see if there is a problem (like cysts on the ovaries that are causing the long cycles, etc.).

I have a 35 day cycle so not as long as yours.  I had a miscarriage with my first pregnancy and I am now 8 and a half weeks pregnant again. I didn't take any drugs and got pregnant naturally.  If your cycle is 45 days, you would probably ovulate anywhere between 20-23 days after the first day of your last period.  I would say try every other day between 18-25 days.

well i didn't have such long cycles as you, but i had an average of 35 day cycles. we officially started trying last december, and finally got a BFP a couple weeks ago! It took us that long because we werent paying that much attention to exactly when i was ovulating. But i really did in july, we made sure to at least try every other day the week or two i thought i might be ovulating. I kinda knew it was gonna happen, because i could tell my CM was different, so i knew i was ovulating. And it worked! good luck to you! It can definitly happen to us with long cycles!

Take a gander at my chart! I went off BC in October 2008, and had 40-50 day cycles after that. The first month we stopped using condoms (June), we conceived! And it was a very long cycle. I didn't even ovulate until like CD42 or something like that. I had no symptoms really, but I was noticing weird things... like wanting a TON of tomato juice, sleeping on airplanes (which I never do), waking up with weird diarrhea episode in the middle of the night (never happens to me), and then getting some REALLY odd spotting three days before the BFP (literally like I was leaking soy sauce, and in the middle of the night no less... which also NEVER happens to me). So all the oddness, I tested, and got 5 BFPs. lol.

    You should chart and temp!

I had long & very irregular cycles due to PCOS.  I charted so I knew exactly what was going on or not going on.  My dr put me on clomid & I got pg my 3rd cycle on it.  You may not have PCOS, so I don't know if this info is helpful, but if you are charting & maximizing your fertile period during your cycle, you have the same odds as the next gal, you just have less opportunities each year.  Good luck!

My long cycles were our biggest red flag regarding PCOS. Once I was tested, turned out I did in fact have PCOS. Metformin cut my cycles from 40 days, Oing on CD 24-26 to 28 days, Oing on CD 14. Clomid and a trigger inj also helped us.

Ask your Dr! Mine was a great help!

I had long, irregular cycles (30-70+ days). We weren't TTC when I got pregnant. I guess we just got lucky and had sex at the right time.

I've never been diagnosed with PCOS, and I have never had any other symptoms. I started charting last year and know I ovulated all but one of my cycles since then (I was majorly stressed that cycle).

Good luck TTC! Most likely, you just have long cycles and no other problems. If you are ovulating, you should have nothing to worry about.

There is hope! I have PCOS and very long and irregular cycles. Against the odds we got lucky (or my husband did) at the right time and here I am 8 1/2 weeks pregnant.

My last cycle was 5-10-09 and I ovulated about June 30th. We started trying in February. I did not chart because I did not want the headache. We did it. Now I just want my LO to stick because who knows how long it would take to do this again.

I also have PCOS and have very long cycles  (over 100+ days at times). You *can* get pg (I have proof x2!!) but it may take more 'work'  and you'll have less chances since you may not ovulate as often as a normal woman does.

I'd look more into WHY you have long cycles and go from there if you don't get pregnant within a reasonable time.

I had cycles your length before going on BCP. Then after BCP, I had a couple cycles and then no period for three months. I was diagnosed with PCOS. If you don't conceive after a few cycles, I would recommend going to your Dr.

Once I was diagnosed and put on Metformin 1500 mg, my cycles shortened to 30-32 days. We tried Clomid, but that didn't work for me. Eventually I got a surprise BFP last month!

So even if you diagnosed with something like PCOS...you can get pregnant.

I completely understand your anxiety!  With my first baby once I was off BCP, which I had been on for 10 years, it took a few months for me to realize how stinkin' long my cycles were.  We weren't actively trying at that point.  Once I knew my cycle was 40 days, I used OPK to help figure out when I would O.  I got pregnant the first month we started trying.  With this pregnancy, I didn't use OPK, just had mad sex days 20-27.  BFP on first month of trying.  Good luck to you.

Since you just started trying I wouldn't worry about it too much yet, I have irregular cycles and got pregnant right away (going on a romantic vacation didn't hurt). ?If time goes by with no luck, I would go with the suggestions of the other ladies.

My cycles are long and irregular.  I had NO idea when I was ovulating and when I thought I knew.. I was way off.  We had been trying for a little less than a year.  My DH and I were on a trip to Mexico and it just happened.. my gyno just told me to get drunk and see where it goes.. prolly really weird advice to say and to write on this board, but don't stress yourself out about it at this point.  My friend actually just bought the clearblue easy ovulation kit and said it is fantastic.  It may be worth investing in.  GL!

First things first-- don't over do it!  Every doctor I've spoken to says that at first, you should just have fun in the trying, and if after 6 mo nothing happens, you can go have a consult with your doctor.

Second-- success story:  my friend had ridiculously irregular periods due to mild PCOS (we're talking a period every 6-9 weeks depending) and she got pregnant WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OF TRYING!!!  Don't read the bull that you'll have problems, getting pregnant is such a delicate balance of factors, just RELAX and go ahead.  Give yourself a chance to try and it may just happen...

(btw, neither my friend nor I charted or did basal body temp, found it too stressful, esp w/her irregular cycle... but try and notice your discharge, read up on what is the "fertile" stuff that gives you a clue that your ovulating...good luck!)

Hi! That's me! I have PCOS, so I don't always O during my cycles. But I just kept charting and took advantage of the one time I did in 6 months! This was the last cycle before we were going to start Clomid. And here I am 6 weeks pregnant. If you haven't already, you should read taking charge of your fertility. It really helped me. G/L

I went off b/c in January? I had been on it for 11 years. My cycles were 40 days after going off. I wasn?t charting but I just took a guess as to when I would ovulate. 14 days before my expected period.. this worked the first time I tried it.  I was actually hoping to get pregnant after the summer but since I have such long cycles I figured I might as well just take my chances because I ovulate less than others with a more normal cycle.

my cycle was not regular and typically averaged around 45 days.  for the first few months that we "tried," we had sex every other day with the outlook that we would avoid missing ovulation and not have to stress over tests and calculations and what not.  then we decided to try something different and "save it" for once or twice a week.  i decided to take an ovulation test a few weeks after my period (guessing that i would be ovulating around mid-cycle) and saw a faint line.  this encouraged me to keep taking them for a few days until i got a solid line...had sex a couple times that day and for a few days after...a week and a half later i found we got a faint line!

You ladies are the best!  Thanks for sharing all of your success stories....sounds like sex, sex, and more sex is the way to go!

I will certainly take your advice and call the dr. after 6 months if needed.

    Thanks again!

H&H 9 months to you all!

Both my sister and I have long, irregular cycles, and we both got PG in June. It was both of our first months TTC. My last cycle before I got PG in June was 45 days. My sister got KU on day 30 of her cycle, and I on CD18. Both of us were charting our temps and fertility signs, which you should definitely do so you can concentrate your efforts on your most fertile time. There is tons of hope for you...I too let the stuff I was reading on the internet make me feel depressed about my chances of concieving, but it turns out I shouldn't have!

My cycles were any where between 29 to 40 days....talk about irregular lol but long behold I'm 6 weeks pg :-)

It took about 5 months to get that BFP but we did it. I used the Answer Ovulation Tester Kit this past cycle and it obviously worked......I didn't ovulate until day 25 this past cycle....

I have always had very irregular and long cycles. My menses cycles could range anywhere from 33 days to 180 days (yes, that is right!). However, I did find out that I still ovulated during these large skip moments. I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant back in April, but if I were to have gone off my periods alone it would have indicated that I was 12 weeks. Completely not the case. Unfortunately, I did end up having an early miscarriage that time around. I got pregnant during my last cycle which was roughly a 44 day cycle. Please, do not despair! I think it may take us long-winded cyclers a little bit longer on average to get pregnant (we were TTC for about a year and a half), but it can happen! Oh, another thing to point out about my scenario: all the women on my mother's side of the family have irregular cycles (something in our genes), but most become regular after their first child. I also blame my old doctor's excessive reliance on Clomid as a hinderance to becomeing pregnant to begin with. He just assumed that since I skipped periods, I wasn't ovulating during that time. He never did the montlhy physical checks while I was on Clomid, which is what the manufacture states should happen since the drug can have several side effects that actual hinder conceiving.. such as drying you out (which I had while on Clomid and told my doctor who seemed to careless). Grrr.... anyway. I now have a wonderful doctor, who was floored to hear about the practices of my old doctor and it took us less than 6 months to get pregnant.

Just found this post and am glad I did. I have cycles from 31-41 days. I stopped BCP in March 2009. Started charting at end of August/early September. I have found it to be frustrating, probably because we're not pregnant yet. I found the temp drop before my period to be terribly upsetting. So, anyhow, I am taking a month off and only checking CM this time. I may also use the OPK again. Our Dr. said to try until March 2010 and then come in and see her. I'm really hoping we are successful before then, as I'm already worried something is wrong.

Thanks to all of you successful long cycle-ers for sharing your stories. It gives me hope that we can do this naturally.?
