I just miscarried for the second time this year. My doctor said that he wanted to do a full blood workup on me, especially to check my thyroid levels. I'm not over or underweight, but I guess I can identify some of the symptoms. Has anyone had trouble carrying to term because of a thyroid problem? I knew of someone that couldn't get pregnant and then started taking meds for thyroid and ended up having triplets right away. I didn't know if that was normal. I'm just so frustrated and want to know if there is a reason why this happened again!
Re: Thyroid problems and miscarriage?
I've never had a weight problem When I was 14, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. This is an autoimmune hypothyroid disease. I'm now very closely monitored by an endocrinologist to make sure I'm getting enough thyroid medication.
If you have any form of hypothyroidism, it is bad for the baby. Your body could produce too little for the baby to survive thus resulting in m/c, or the baby can be born with mental disabilities.
It is crucial to make sure your thyroid is acting properly, and then to be followed closely before and during pregnancy.
One more thing- this is my fourth pregnancy. During the first 2 pregnancies, I was not monitored by an endocrinologist and I continued taking the regular pre-pregnancy dose. My third pregnancy, I was monitored, but I still mc so they think it was a chromosomal problem. My fourth pregnancy, I've been monitored closely and so far, everything has been wonderful.
Good luck to you!!
I also never had a weight problem. I was with my first RE and she never bothered to do anything about my elevated TSH level (indicating hypothyroidism). After 2 m/c and 5 failed IUI's I changed RE's.
Once I did that they immediately found that my thyroid levels were out of whack. They put me on synthroid at the beginning of my cycle. With in two weeks I was pregnant with this bean.
I still go to an endocrinologist and get my levels checked once a month to make sure they are where they should be, and I take my medicine every day.
I really hope that it's just as easy of a fix for you. If you have any questions just ask.
