Scary experience at dentist today

I just had to share this with someone b/c it's bothering me. I had to go to the dentist after work for a root canal. The pain was excruciating and I thought I could handle just having my mouth numb. Wrong. So I asked him for gas and they said sure. They put the mask on and it started working and I could feel my breathing slowing down and myself going out of it but I could also feel my pulse speeding up and had this weird throbbing in my neck. Of course I couldn't say anything but was still aware of my surroundings. I seriously thought I was about to die (know it sounds crazy and Disney-like) and all I could keep saying in my mind was, "I love you, Amarah. I love you, Amarah." After a minute or so I relaxed and calmed down and all was well, didn't feel a thing and he was done before I knew it. I can't believe how I freaked out though and the only thing I could think about was A.

  • Wow, so sorry. When I was in the hospital while pregnant with M, they were putting in an IV and blew it like 8 times before getting it right. After the third time, I honestly thought I would die...so silly looking back, but so scary in the moment. I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

  • I can understand that because being a parent, that is all you think about.  Let me make it for said child.  Sorry it was such a scary event.
  • Scary!

I had to have dental work done recently. DH kept telling me all I needed was a local. I didn't want to feel it at all. Locals don't really take with me.

They gave me 2 valium to take on the way there. I only took 1. When they turned on the nitrous I was fine. Then I started feeling really weird. I didn't like it at all. I immediately thought something was going wrong and I wasn't going to see my kids. The dentist kept assuring me everything was fine. He asked if I took both valium. LOL

I finally said, "Okay, why don't I just sit back and enjoy this feeling?" The dentist said, "That's what I'm wondering."

You just don't want to leave your kids!

I'm glad you finally got the work done. Hopefully you feel better soon!
