internal causing bright red bleeding

Anyone have an internal that caused bleeding? I had one done today at my appt and afterwards I had a lot of bright red blood with blood clots. It has since then stopped ..just a little brown spotting which I have heard is normal after internal. Dr said my cervix was very short and thinned out but cervix closed. Could the shortened cervix have caused this? I also take heparin for MTHFR.

Re: internal causing bright red bleeding

  • If your cervix was thin, your doctor may have stretched it causing more bleeding than normal.  The heparin you are on may have complicated the matter and caused even more bleeding.  The clots sound concerning, but I am glad to hear they are gone and you're only spotting now.  If you have any more bright red bleeding or clotting, call your doctor or head into L&D.

  • Agreed.

I too have MTHFR and a couple of times I had internal exams, I did some spotting it was red and then dar.  One time I had an internal and bled for like 2 weeks.  You're going to bleed more and longer b/c of the blood thinners.  oh joy... NOT!  Plus my cervix was SUPER sensitive and friable, meaning anything touching it would set me off on antother bleeding episode.  They really told us to limit or have no sex until the baby's born b/c of the sensitivity of my cervix.  Sigh....
