What do kids in NYC do on Halloween for trick-or-treating?

We are going to be staying with my aunt that weekend because the marathon is the next day (mh is running).  I assumed we'd skip Halloween this year, but mh was very upset with me for even considering that!  haha  Sooo...do kids go trick-or-treating in their buildings or are there cute parties for kids or what?  My aunt lives in a pretty big building on the Upper East Side, if that matters.

My friends and I used to go around to the different apartments in the building. You?d cover SOOOO much ground in just 2 buildings! Score!!
