I am almost afraid to ask-re:newborns and sleeping

for fear that I may jinx myself- but Kaya is awake and alert off and on during the day and when she is, she is on the boob- the kid can eat! But at night, we have been going up to bed around 10:30 or so- so she bf's, then falls asleep until like 3 or 4 wakes, eats again and then sleeps until about 7:00... thats too much sleeping for a week old right? I was told to never wake a sleeping baby and she is gaining weight (as of yesterday she was over her birth weight)- so should I just enjoy this while it lasts or try and get her to eat more during the night? WWYD? Thanks!

P.S. She could not be more different then her sister who was up every hour or two- so I am just lost...and well rested!

  • Enjoy it!  I think it's totally fine as long as she's gaining weight!

  • You're good, enjoy the sleep.  DD was much the same way.

    Congrats, btw!!!!!

  • If she's gaining weight, showing no signs of jaundice, and has the appropriate number of wet and poopy diapers, my ped said long stretches of sleep at night were fine.

  • That's how Emily was, too. It was heaven=) She started STTN by 8 weeks and did great until a bout of rotovirus coincided with the 4 month wakeful period. It then took until after her first birthday to get her STTN again.

  • Our kids are the same.  Ds was always up every 2 hrs or so when he was a baby.  DD however had the exact same schedule as  you DD.  The Pedi just told us that as long as she continues to gain weight then everything is fine.

Isn't it a treat that we've both been blessed with awesome sleeping babies the second time around:-)
