Pregnant after 35

NE1 take prednisone while pregnant?

Just wondering?  I have a call into my OB but he's out until tomorrow afternoon and my family doctor prescribed it for bursitis (sp) in my hip and said it was fine to take but talk to my OB first?  Clearly I'll wait but just wondering if anyone else has taken it while preg?  TIA!!

Re: NE1 take prednisone while pregnant?

  • I haven't had to take any but have been told by my OB and GI dr that it is okay to take during pregnancy. I have an autoimmune disease and prednisome is often the main drug they can use to combat a flare-up.  I would still talk to my OB before I started taking them though.

I found this which is interesting:

After reading this, I would have to really weigh what you are taking the steroids for versus potential effects.

  •  Prednisone is a pretty strong medication & I didn't think it was on the safe list due to the many side effects. I may be wrong though but I think a few of the side effects to be worried about are high blood sugar levels & stomach ulcers if you don't take it with food.

Sorry about the bursitis--keep us posted on what your OB says!

Me: 42, DH: 43. We are so grateful to have a 2yr old daughter, conceived naturally after 3 miscarriages & no treatments (our Dr. gave us 1 more month to try on our own before advacing to IVF, & we conceived her naturally in January 2010)! Trying since April 2011 without sucess....MD said we were both "fine" & that if it wasn't happening, it was a chromosomal issue. Finally started Follistim 225mcg injections with an Ovidrel trigger November 2012. Bleeding 11 days post Ovidrel on November 25th. Starting the whole lab/Ultrasound/Follistim cycle again on November 27th...
  • I was on it before I knew I was pregnant for an asthma flareup. They told me not to worry about it, but it isn't something they would have given me had they known.

  • I have Multiple Sclerosis and Prednisone is sometimes given to treat a relapse. I've only ever heard of one pregnant girl with MS taking it and didn't hear of how here pregnancy/baby turned out, but would never have considered taking it myself while I was pregnant. Check with safefetus.com and your OB, but I'd be pretty wary about it.
