Random ?: When do you stop feeding before bed?

At the moment, we have the bedtime routine down.  I've just started thinking though, when do you stop nursing/giving a bottle before your DC goes to sleep?  Just curious...

  • Hey keg!  I'll be interested to know that too.  I am still nursing Hope before bed.

  • For us it was 1 year - when we ditched bottles.

It went much easier than I expected for both kids.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • We dropped the bedtime bottle around a year, but still did the sippy cup, as she was not getting in enough milk during the day. we loosened up the association a bit, too. we have a pretty loose bedtime routine, it seems she likes it that way.  We didn't ditch her last AM bottle until about 15 months. gasp!

We still give her 1/2 nana and about 2-4 ounces in a sippy about 30 minutes before bed, but we're trying to phase out that milk now too...as we're starting the potty training thing, and she does not need the liquids that late. she's 17 months now.

curious what others think as well.

  • We stopped when we stopped the bottles. At 1 year we took away all bottles but the bedtime one and then around 14 months we got rid of the bedtime one by giving him a sippy cup of milk downstairs before bedtime. I think I was the only one that missed the last bottle! (That was my cuddle time with him).
  • we are still doing it! 2 oz bottle as part of the night time routine about a half hour/hour after their last bottle (yes, we still do bottles...as per pedi's instructions..preemies, ya know..but my pedi doesn't rush it anyways)

i am going to try and phase it out in the next couple of weeks actually..because they actually seem less interested, so im kinda glad i waited for their cues that they don't really need it that much anymore

  • Our pedi just told us at our 8 month appt to drop the nighttime bottle, that she should only be having 3/day.  At the time she was getting 5 so I dropped to 4 (and even then she wasn't finishing everyone) but DD herself just decided she didn't want the nighttime bottle.  Every night before bed I try to give her one and she drinks about an ounce, maybe 2 tops and pushes it away.  So now it's 3/day.
