Trying to Get Pregnant

dog question- elbow hygromas

has anyone's dog ever had these?

ralphie has had them on his elbows since we found him and the vet thinks it was because he was sleeping on concrete or another hard surface. he said after a while of sleeping on a soft surface, they will go away.

he sleeps in a kennel with a really comfortable pet bed inside. we've only had him for 2.5 weeks but i was wondering if you have tried anything that made the swelling go down more quickly?

note: i'm pretty sure if i wrapped them he would pull it off, so hopefully someone has another solution.

thanks!

Re: dog question- elbow hygromas

  • My dog has a small one and he's never slept on anything hard.  They aren't a big deal, sometimes they go away and sometimes they don't.  Mine got one about a year ago, he is six and it is just starting to go away.  I wouldn't worry about it.  If it's sore, oozing, bleeding, then I would put neosporin on it and tape some gauze on so it doesn't get on your carpet/furniture.  Otherwise I'd just leave it alone.  You can give dogs vitamins, you could give him a vitamin E caplet, or cut open a vitamin E gelcap into his food and see if that helps.  But I don't think it's anything to really worry about.  GL!

Edit: the bump thought I was swearing, oops lets say oozing instead.

  • I have 2 rescue greyhounds, and they slept on hard surfaces until we got them.  They had them, and they went away with time; unfortunately for them it took about 6 months.  Fish oil is good for healthy skin and a shiny coat, we used it to help with dry skin on the 2 dogs and on our cat, and it worked wonders.  You can give it in gel caps, or you can squirt it on their food.  Vitamin E is good, but you have to be careful about overdosing, so read your dog food label first, and see how much they are getting in food before you supplement with a human size dose.
