Hairloss

Hi ladies I had my little one about 4 months ago at 32 wks and the last couple of weeks I have been losing a lot of hair. I breastfeed and I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Although I am losing a lot of hair and it is looking thin and balding toward the front of my head by my hair line and temple area. Is anyone else experiencing this or has in the past or heard of it? Please help!

Re: Hairloss

  • I know that some hair loss pp is normal but I also know that when my thyroid was acting up I lost a lot of hair so you may need to check your hormone levels.
  • I lost a ton of hair from 3-6 months pp. I drove me nuts (luckily I have plenty to spare) but it stopped right around 6 months. Hang in there - it will get better (keep Draino on hand!).

  • I lost a ton of hair. ?It was awful. ?I stopped wearing my hair in a ponytail (elastic bands were causing more breakage), stopped washing it every day, and bought some pretty expensive conditioners. ?I also started taking prenatal vitamins again. ?It took a long time for all of the broken hair to grow out, but my hair is great now. ?The only difference is that after having naturally curly hair my entire life, my hair is now straight! ?How weird is that?!

  • Some postpartum hair loss is normal, but it shouldn't get to the point where your hair is visibly thinner than it has ever been. Definitely talk to your doctor and ask for a thyroid test. Thyroid medicine is SO easy to deal with! One of my sons takes thyroid medicine, and it is no big deal at all.
