Question about the 35/35 milestone?

I see this over on 3rd tri and I am just wondering why 35 weeks is such a big milestone for normal single baby pregnancies if term is 37 weeks?

I see girls over there trying to get their labor started at 35 weeks and I just can't understand the reasoning when I am doing everything to keep my boys in past 35 weeks.

Re: Question about the 35/35 milestone?

  • I don't get it either. I think they just think it is cool that you have 35 days left at 35 weeks...

Either way, it is crazy to wish labor would start at 35 weeks! My girls were born 2 days before 35 weeks and spent 10 days in the NICU.

  • I think bc they think that if the baby were to born that the baby would be fine when in fact there is no guarantee.  They don't get it.

  • good lord. that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. who would WANT their kid to have a NICU stay? good god.

i always thought it was just because the 35/35 thing sounded neat. no other reason. jesus.

  • I totally didn't realize there were 35 days left at 35 weeks.

  • That's about the stupidest thing I've heard in a while... Morons.
  • I never noticed they were trying to get labor started at 35 weeks, I just thought it was all about 35 weeks and 35 days.
  • If it's because they want to get labor started then, they're fucktards.  Who the hell wants a preemie?
  • I always thought it was the "cool factor" of the 35 weeks down and 35 days to go.  I have never heard anything about anyone TRYING to have them at 35 weeks. (Although I'm physically ready to have mine and I'm at 35.5 weeks - not because I want preemies, but because my body just hurts so bad that it puts me in tears all the time.  I'm not WISHING to have them in the NICU.  I'm just wishing to be out of constant pain.  My doc has always said that she'd be happy if I made it to 36 weeks, and I think we have that covered.  I've been on bedrest for a LONG time.  I'm certainly not capable of moving NOW.)
