Pregnant after 35

amnio and lovenox ques.

I'm new to this board and home that someone can help. I had an amnio done on both my twins yesterday and was told to go off my baby aspirin for 5 days and my lovenox for 24 hours.  Now I'm having two differeny Dr.'s tell me dfferent things about when to start back up.  One says 24 hurs after procedure and one says 48 hrs.  Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Re: amnio and lovenox ques.

  • No experience, but which doctor is telling you which thing?  I'd call your doctor's office, explain your confusion, and ask for clarification.

  • No experience here either, but I would go with whichever dr is the expert. Do you have a high risk OB? If so, maybe call them and explain the two different messages..

How confusing! I hope you hear something definitive soon.

  • Without knowing your history I'm guess the temporary absence of aspirin/lovenox must be due to the amnio procedure?

I have been on Lovenox daily since 13 weeks due to low Protein C levels and history of miscarriage along with 81 mg baby aspirin until 6wks post partum (I switch to Heparin at 38wks). My Hemo, Peri and OB all agree on the dosage. What was the reason for your regiment of Lovenox? Do you have Thrombophilia?

Also, you may want to visit the High-Risk Board. There are lots of Lovenox ladies there.

    Good luck!

  • how timely. I had my amnio last week and was told to be off Lovenox (and baby aspirin) for 24 before and after the amnio.  My peri an expert in the field of blood clotting disorders so I trust her completely.
  • When you re-start the lovenox should depend on why you're on it. Do you have an established thrombus or are you on it as a preventative measure? I would go with the OB/GYN recommendations since they have more experience with complications (bleeding, leaking) after the amnio. Pregnancy is a high risk condition for thromboembolism so they do have experience with managing anticoagulation. Call the second MD (not sure if you have an internist or hematologist regulating your lovenox) and tell them what the OB/GYN recommended & see what they say. If you are in doubt always call the MD office to inquire again. Ask them their rationale for starting it differently than the ob. good luck!
