3rd Trimester

Internal Question

So I'm having a scheduled C/S.  I'm coming to the time where Dr will most likely begin internals, but I'm not positive.

Of course I'll discuss this with the Dr too, but what good would that do?  Other than checking for progress, internals do nothing else right?  Would it be bad to not know if I was say 2cm dialated and never went into labor anyways?

I'm thinking I'll skip em.

Re: Internal Question

  • well, it'd be good to know if you were progressing and needed to move the c/s up.  They just check for progress.

  • I would think that unless you're having contractions and worried about going into labor....why bother?

My dr doesn't do them until 39 weeks, because she feels they are pointless until then anyway.

Hopefully you won't have to have them. I've been crampy and had bleeding all day thanks to the one I had this morning:-(

  • I had a scheduled c-section with DD (and will with this LO also). My OB said there was no reason to ever do any type of exam on me, other than his initial for DD. I agreed completely! Doctors are different though and do things for other reasons...

    This. Besides, they are uncomfortable...

That would make sense if they actually meant anything.  She could be 3 cm dilated for weeks before her C section or be 0 cm dilated and go into labor the next day.

OP- Skip them, no need at all.
