(Thought I should make this two posts for those who are avoiding negative venting right now)
Can anyone tell me about this procedure
1. Why did you have it done?
2. How is different than a lap?
3. How long was your recovery?
4. Any other advice on what to expect?
Re: Hysteroscopy ?
1. i had 2 operative hysteroscopes for asherman's syndrome
2.i have no idea...
3. it took about 2 weeks for me to feel completely myself agian but i had scar tissue removed both times as well as a balloon placed in my ute for 2 weeks
4. not sure why you are having it done but if they are removing things while they are in there i highly suggest asking for pain killers...for my first they didn't give me any pain killers to take home and i was in sooo much pain..the second time around i asked for them and it turned out fine..i had pain here and there but i was able to manage it better
Are you having the hysteroscopy as an investigative or operative procedure? I had a hysteroscopy done a few weeks ago that was solely to develop a clear diagnosis. My operative hysteroscopy isn't until the end of the month.
1) I had an irregular saline u/s. My RE wasn't sure if I had a polyp or something else at the top of my uterus so he ordered the hysteroscopy.
2) I've never had a lap, so I can't compare the 2.
3) There was no recovery. It's a 15-30 min outpatient procedure (unless you're having an operative hysteroscopy).
4) It was quick and relatively painless - juts some minor cramping. I was awake the entire time and could watch as my RE completed the procedure.
I had a hysteroscopy to remove a fibroid. Since it was for a different purpose I don't know if my experience will be like yours. For me, this procedure was SO EASY! Other than the whole surgery thing (arriving 2 hours early, waking up, and then getting un-groggy from anasthetia), it was a piece of cake. I took the day after off from work, but I really didn't need to. I had some advil in my IV in recovery, but I felt literally no pain the rest of the day or beyond. They prescribed me some vicodin but I didn't even pick up the prescription.
Good luck and I hope your experience is as easy as mine was
I would advise to take the day after off of work just in case you need it.
My blog: Making Me Mom
I haven't had my operative hysteroscopy yet, it is scheduled for the 28th. But I did have a lap a few years back.
1. Why did you have it done? I'm having a uterine polyp removed.
2. How is different than a lap? I had the option of having a second lap or just the hysteroscopy. I went with the hysteroscopy. My lap was incredibly painful and the recover time was well over a week. My RE said with the hysteroscopy that I can have it on Friday and should be fine to return to work on Monday. It is a lot less invasive.
3. How long was your recovery? My RE said to expect to take it easy the day of the procedure and the day after and then I should feel almost back to normal.
4. Any other advice on what to expect? No advice since I haven't had it yet but I wanted to wish you the best luck!
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
1. I've had 3 operative hysteroscopies for fibroids and one with a lap. I also had the diagnostic one after my pregnancy loss (d&e).
2. They go in through your vagina. No cuts. No gas.
3. After my last one just a couple of days. The other ones I needed more time to heal because I had fibroids removed.
4. Try to relax. It is a simple procedure and you'll be back to your old self and ready for your FET before you know it.
1. Why did you have it done? to remove a polyp
2. How is different than a lap? haven't had a lap
3. How long was your recovery? I just rested the day of the hysteroscopy and was back at work the following morning. Just slight cramping, no pain.
4. Any other advice on what to expect? they knocked me out for it so I don't remember anything other than the nurse anesthesiologist saying that I was going to feel sleepy... then I woke up an hour later in the post-OP area feeling groggy.
good luck!
1. to check for scar tissue and other abnormalities
2. never had a lap
3. cramped badly during the procedure, but it only lasts for a few minutes, once it's over no lasting effects
4. My RE recommends taking Motrin before the procedure. I was glad that I followed the advice.
First, I hope my siggy doesn't offend.
1. I had it to have a septum excised (I had had 3 m/c and they thought it may be related).
2. No idea. Never had a lap.
3. It was an outpatient procedure. I felt a little loopy from anesthesia that day, but that was it. I only spotted for a few days afterward.
4. It was an easier procedure than my d&c's. I hardly had any cramping at all.
an anyone tell me about this procedure
1. Why did you have it done? Investigative turned operative... It was part of my pre-IVF work, to make sure everything was ok. They found a septum, so resected it and cancelled my cycle. I have a follow-up hysteroscopy next week to make sure all is healed.
2. How is different than a lap? Never had a lap, but there are no incisions, so that's a huge plus
3. How long was your recovery? Pretty much no recovery... I was wiped out the rest of the day because it was done under general anesthesia. I was a little crampy and tired for a couple of days and since mine was surgical, walking around too much made me spot a lot so I took it easy for a few days. But going to work and all was fine.
4. Any other advice on what to expect? I spotted a lot. Lots. Part of it was my body freaking out, I think. Since I'd been on BCPs, and was taken off and put on estradiol to help the healing, my body didn't know what to think, so I spotted then flat-out bled for two weeks. Period (or whatever it was) ended the day I started provera, of course. But it really shouldn't be that bad. My body doesn't like having its hormones jacked with. Oh, since mine was surgical, we were also told no sex for two weeks.
