Cows Milk-how long safe to be out?

I was just thinking about this yesterday when we were leaving to go out for afternoon. I just switched DS to milk last week & wondering how long it can be out for at room temp. It was so easy with formula, just put in mix can in diaper bag, put water in bottle & mix it when ready, didn't have to worry about keeping it cold!

How do you travel with it, do you keep the cup or bottle in a small baby cooler if your out?

  • I take a small cooler with two sippys of milk and an ice pack or some ice in a baggie if we're going to be out for an afternoon. We have a foogo sippy which keeps the milk cold for a long time but ds doesn't like to drink out of it and I don't like that it spills.

  • I used a cooler till DS got better with a harder spout sippy.  He used nuby for awhile.  Once he got better at it I bought thermos sippies.  They keep milk cold for up to 6 hours.

  • I received an insulated lunch/bottle bag as a gift.  I will bring milk in that if its 1-2 hours, any more and I stop by a gas station, etc. and buy a small 12 oz thing of milk from their fridge...  Unless I'm going someplace super rural, its a non-issue.
  • From what I have read, it is ok at room temp for a few hours.
  • ds prefers his milk warm so I keep it out most of the day in an insulated straw sippy. he usually goes through 2 millk sippy's a day.

when we travel or are out and about, I have a small clip on insulated bag that I put a small milk bottle in with a freezer pack to keep it cool. The little insulated bag is actually one of those small diaper bags from BRU but it serves multiple purposes :-D

  • I wondered this myself-----but with rice milk.  I'm not used to making a bottle in the middle of the night but my milk is decreasing (BF'd)--and so I wonder if I could leave it out before I go to bed (he typically wakes up around midnight for his first feeding).
