3rd Trimester

LEAKING FLUID...

So the past few days I have noticed a sensation of leaking fluid. The first few times I figured just discharge. Then I noticed not really needing to pee but feeling the urge, going to the bathroom and just a little clear liquid would dribble out. I assumed when I heard about leaking fluid it meant like alot of fluid coming out not just little dribbles each time so I didnt even become concerned. Now it happens everytime i pee, sneeze, get up from laying down, etc....

I had an appointment today for my 35 week check and forgot to ask. I was seeing a new doctor because mine is on vacation this week .Should I call tommorrow? I just didn't think i was leaking fluid since its just little amounts. I have also been smelling it and it doesn't smell like urine but kinda salty? My urine has also been pretty clear since I am drinking lots of water in this heat. So i thought also it was just left over urine that was clear coming out.

Now that its late and inconveinent, Im starting to get worried. Any advice??

Re: LEAKING FLUID...

  • If you really think you are leaking you should call the on call OB.  I believe any sort of leak could result in bacteria being introduced and that's not good.

  • You should call the on call doctor/nurse right now and see what they suggest.
  • Ummm  forget whether or not it's inconvenient.  If you are leaking fluid you should probably call L&D and see what they say.  They might tell you to come in ASAP, they might say stay home and wait to your next appointment - but ultimately you should at least call.
  • You can always go in so they can do the pH test on you... They sample the fluid to see if it is amniotic or just urine (as in the case with my friend who went in about 4 times thinking her water had broken when in fact she had just been peeing herself a bit!)... On the other hand, if you are leaking amniotic, you don't want to mess around cause an infection can begin which you don't want...
  • Yeah, I vote call the on call doctor. It may be nothing, like others have said, but I think better safe than sorry.
  • Bladder incontinence is very, very common in pregnancy. Amniotic fluid smells sweet, btw.

Anytime you're in doubt you NEED to call.

  • If your water broke and it was high it could be fluid from this.  It could also just be pee.  If you are not sure you should talk to your doc or go to the hospital.  If it is your water broke you need to let your doc know.
  • YOu need to call. ?I had the same thing and it turned out to be a good thing I called.
