Stupid question about car seat base

How exactly do you use one??? I was looking at them and reading about them but it doesn't really tell you how to use it.

Re: Stupid question about car seat base

  • The base attaches to the back seat of your car either with the seat belt or with the LATCH system if you have it.  Then you just set the infant seat on top of the base and it snaps into it.  When you get out you take the infant seat out of the car, but the base stays.  Does that answer your questions?

  • For an infant seat it's the part that just straps directly into your car... the part that stays in the car when the actual carrier is removed.  They all strap in slightly differently... either using the seat belt or the latch system in your car.  Instructions will come with whichever seat you get.  I have the Chicco seat and base and the base is really easy to install... which is good because I've had to move it around from my car to my parent's car a lot. :)

  • The base stays in your car.  This is nice because you can buy more than one, i.e., one for your car and one for your husbands car.  The car seat then clicks into the base and you can then take it in and out.  These are great when your baby is small and that way you can just lift the car seat out and don't have to wake the baby.  The car seat then can click into a stroller like the Graco or the Snap and Go.
  • Maybe I've got massive pregnancy brain, but it all seems very complicated. Lol! I need to find a car seat workshop so that I can be better informed.

This exactly. That is why most people find it convenient to buy two bases instead of two carseats. You can leave the bases in both cars, and just pop out the infant seat and click it into the base in the other car. I wish convertible seats had bases!

Yes ma'am. That's exactly what I did. I got the travel system, and purchased one extra base. That was all we needed for carseat and stroller needs in the beginning.

Thanks! It took me about 45 minutes longer than it should have but I understand lol.

  • My OB told us to go to a fire station and they will set it all up for you and make sure everything is snug and secure.  DH and I can follow directions, but this is our first and want to be sure, so that's what we'll be doing.
