Since G started eating solids, i have talked with my Carlos a lot about nutrition, about how bad nutrition can lead to bad behaviour and about why it is important to eat healthy and have a balanced diet. I sort of figured I was just rambling on and on and that he wasn't really paying attention. Until last week.
He recently moved in with some friends. A couple with a 3 year old and a 6 month old. He has noticed that the older child does not eat very well. A lot of microwaved foods, lunchables for most meals and drinks/food with HFCS and other additives.
The 3 year old is smart and talkative but is also really agressive and not very well behaved. The mom was venting to C-los about why her child was like that. Saying that she didn't think she was raising him to act this way. Carlos risked offending her and said that maybe it had to do with his diet and then rattled off some of the stuff I had told him.
SHE LISTENED! She went to the computer to do her own research and then made some changes to his diet. C said that with in just a few DAYS, they could see improvement. He mellowed out A LOT.
So YAY for Carlos listening! And YAY for the other mommy taking C's comments constructively rather than being offended! And lastly, YAY for me for being a blabber-mouth!
Re: AW: I was helpful for once!
Woohoo! Do you have any links to good info to share? My nephews live on juice, chicken nuggets, ketchup, and popsicles. And you can guess how well behaved they are.
Does that mean if I stopped drinking Dr. Pepper, I wouldn't be such a crazy b*tch?
I'd like some websites with info, too, please! Enlighten me.
WTG Carlos!! LOL at "yay for him listening"...you've always got a lot to offer. I am not surprised you helped someone.
On a side note, a while back someone mentioned a book about food and it's affect on your body, do you happen to remember the title? I want to pick it up. I have noticed a tremendous difference in what Ty eats and how he behaves.

Wow, way to go. I would love to get that book too. It might explain why some of the kids I watch occasionally act up.
The Dr Sears Family Nutrition Book is so so awesome. It not only shows you great foods to eat but also talks about how they effect the body and mind. LOVE it.
Michael Pollan's books about food are really great.
If you google "food and behavior" there are a ton of articles, blogs, research. Some can be extreme and biased, like blaming EVERYTHING that can go wrong with kids on food/diet.
I just try to abide by the "DES" diet - Don't Eat Sh!t diet. buying food with less ingredients...like bread that is just flour, water, salt, yeast sugar. As opposed to a bunch of chemicals i can't pronounce. or no ingredients (veggies, meats, dairy)
