Someone called the police on me...

We installed our car seat and base over the weekend, and we had decided to leave everything in my explorer. I went to BRU to return a pack n play, and when I went back to my car (about 15 minutes later), there was a very agitated woman with a police officer standing next to it. I thought maybe she had hit me in the parking lot or something. She had called the police and told them I had left my baby in a hot car. The officer could look at me and tell I was pregnant, but I was more than happy to show them the empty car seat. I'm glad they responded quickly, but I wish she had actually looked in the car seat before calling the cops. Hmm

  • WTH?  Wow. I mean, I can definitely understand her concern, but how hard it is to look and see if there's actually a baby in the car?  I see empty car seats all the time.
  • OMG glad she was proactive but she should have checked and looked at the car seat 1st. ?
  • That woman sounds like a moron... she didn't even look in the car seat before calling the police?

  • LOL Did she not even look? WTF?

  • OMG.  What an idiot, lol.  It probably helps if you look first to actually see if there's a baby in the seat before you call the cops...

  • Wow..that lady had balls to stand there. Did she apologize for making an assumption? She sorta made a ARSE out of herself.
  • wow, do you have really dark tint or something?  Maybe a doll in the seat?  I'm trying to understand how she couldn't tell that there wasn't a baby in the seat.  That's crazy!  I'm glad she called if she really thought there was a baby in there... but I am confused how she wouldn't know.  Maybe she was old and her eyes are bad?

  • What a dumb woman.  Couldn't she tell that there was no baby in the car seat?  People take their kids out of car seats and leave the car seats in the car all the time.  Did that not occur to her.  I feel bad for the cop too.  What a waste of time.
  • I think the lady was either really upset she didn't "save the day" or was really embarrassed. She didn't say a word.
  • We just put our carseat in & I was wondering if this would happen to me as well. ughh that stinks.

  • What an oddball.

I mean, I'm glad she's proactive, but wtf on not looking well enough.

  • Hahahaha what an idiot! I bet she felt really stupid!
  •  LOL

This post made me laugh too. What did she say when she realized that it was an empty carseat?

  • LOL... omg I cant believe that. Its funny because you didnt leave a baby but good for her actually making the call because if someone out there HAD done that it could go bad pretty quick. thats kinda funny though

Yes it takes all kinds to make the world go round.

  • She gathered that because the car seat was still in the car? What a super sleuth! What if you took your baby out of the car seat? Used a sling? Left baby at home but, obviously, left car seat in car? There's a few more possibilities than she accounted for!
  • That is funny, but this is exactly why I decided to just leave the base in there after being installed but keep the car seat in the house. I don't want anyone making any assumptions

  • Wow. At least the cop had half a brain and didn't break your window or something.
  • i am cracking up too... some people are so stupid,  The first thing I would do is cup my face up to the glass to see if there was a baby in the car.  What if you weren't PG but you carried him in?  what an idiot

THIS! It was an after thought when I was leaving. That would have not been pleasant.
  • I work in child welfare and it has made me a mess. I always feel people are watching me in public when I am with DS just waiting to find something to call DCFS about.  While it is definatley a no no to leave a child in the car at any time for any amount of time, people need to mind their own business and stop jumping to conclusions.  I'm sorry you had to deal with this situation.  I am sure you are laughing about it now but it was probably stressful at the time.
  • Wow- that's hilarious.

  • Huh, thats strange, but I guess thats good that she at least was trying to do something good.....what a weirdo though for not looking in the car to check.
  • lol, I can practically see the headlines now on usa today

"Mother leaves empty car seat in hot car"

     GASP!  LOL

what a DORK!  freakin check before you call the cops

  • Uh, was she blind?  I mean, I have a pretty dark tint and it is OBVIOUS that there is no child in the car seat.  I would have felt S.T.U.P.I.D.
  • Wow...I'm just wondering, more than the idiot woman, why the police officer didn't just take the time to look in the window. I mean the officer must have known there was no baby right, since he/she didn't just break the window. Maybe the officer looked, but the lady was really convinced there was something in there.

I see empty car seats in parking lots and on the street all the time...what an odd situation...
