For those who change your LOs diapers in the car

Do you do that every time you are out?  Even if there is a changing table in the bathroom and you have your own changing mat, you still leave the resturant to change your LO's diaper in the car?  Am I reading this wrong b/c this sounds like crazy talk to me.  What is wrong with using your changing mats?

Re: For those who change your LOs diapers in the car

  • I don't always go to the car to change my kids, but I do often. I do it because with two it is easier to do it in the car than to worry about the other child. If it's the baby who needs a diaper my 2 year old can hang out with me, but if she's the one who needs a change I don't know where to set him in a public bathroom. Of course this only applies when I'm out running errangs by myself and don't have the stroller with me.

  • Depends on where we are quite honestly.  I've only used a public changing table once - usually I'm not away from the car long enough that I have to use a restroom changing table.

I'm not even really a germ phob (as in I let the dogs lick kiddo, etc) but I hate public restrooms.  Kiddo also does NOT lay still for a change; I'd rather him roll around in my car than possibly roll off a public one - and he touches everything!

ETA: I also avoid lugging around a diaper bag whenever possible ;-)

  • Funny thing.  The last 3 sushi restaurants that I have been to, there have not been changing tables in the bathrooms at all!  I just realized that the other day.  I don't think I have been anywhere else that hasn't had them.  I thought they were required.  That's the only time I would change DD's diaper in the car.
  • I have an Envoy and a Cherokee so it is really easy to just put the pad up there and change her in the back before I toss the stroller in and leave. I am not against using bathrooms but for the most part I like doing it this way. It is safer for her and easier on my back.
  • We have used the car when we were in a restaurant with no space for changing, traveling, or in a place with a yucko restroom.

This expect we have an Equinox and an Escape.  It is just is easier in the car than a public restroom.

  • i have changed DS in the car once, only because the restaurant didnt have a changing table.
