Currently Im reading "Happiest Baby on the Block" and "The Womany Act of Breastfeeding". I just finished husband coached childbirth & ina may's guide to natural childbirth.
I just started "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth", and, to be honest, it's freaking me out a little. It may be just a bit too "natural birth" mentality for me.I am considering returning it to the library.
Otherwise, I haven't really read many books about the birth process, but I've read a few about bringing baby home. I really loved "The Happiest Baby on the Block".
I keep going back to I'm Pregnant (all about pregnancy), but have read The Post Pregnancy Book, Happiest Baby on the Block, thumbed through The Womenly Art of Breastfeeding and am doing the same with The Baby Book.
So far, I can recommend all of them. Another that I have that was recommended to me is The Breastfeeding Mothers Companion but I haven't picked it up yet. Check at your library or buy used on Amazon, there's tons listed.
I'm reading 'Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child' by Marc Weissbluth, MD (it came highly recommended). A friend also got me 'The Nursing Mother's Companion' and 'What to Expect - The First Year'.
DD conceived naturally in 2009. TTC #2 since August 2010. Praying for guidance as we decide what's next.
What to Expect the First Year. It's just okay, but I can see myself going back to it for reference once the baby gets here, and maybe then, I will find it more infomative.
- Birth by Tina Cassiday (History of maternity/birth care)
- Pushed by Jennifer Block (Pro NCB book, interesting read)
- Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin (Highly recommend for birth stories and information about pregnancy and birth)
- The Thinking Woman's Guide to Better Birth by Henci Goer (Highly recommend, but not a cover to cover read -- it's a wonderful reference and resource for information about common interventions and options for birth)
- Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy (Silly book/comic relief)
- The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy (Silly book/comic relief)
