Present for DC1 after DC2 born?

I've heard of people giving their first child a present from the baby when he/she visits in the hopsital and would like to do this. I was thinking of a little digital camera (kids) or do you think something baby-related would be better? Did any of you do this? Did it help?

Thanks!

  • :butting in:  I'm not 2 under 2, but my DS1 was 2 years and 6 weeks when DS2 was born, and we got him a little set of small construction trucks. He got them when he came to the hospital to see me and the baby. It was something small he could play with in the room but still take home easily.

  • Thanks, ILoveBoys. As you can see, I'm not 2 under 2 either, but close enough! :-)

  • I cant comment on if it will help or not, since I am not there yet...but we are going to do this. DS is only 16 months old, so I dont think he will "get" that the gift is from his new brother, but I think it will be nice for him to have a new toy to play with in the hospital. (Though I think he is just going to want to walk around the halls and get into all the "stuff" they have at the hospital.)
  • We did this.  We gave him a gift from his sister the day we brought her home.  We got him a Black & Decker toy work bench.  I think it helped ease things the day we brought her home, plus he was so excited to play with his work bench that he didn't even pay much attention to DD : )

We are going to give dd a baby doll. She doesn't have one yet, and likes them at daycare. I figure she can play mommy while mommy is playing momming. It is my pleasant company one, so we have a basket and diaper bag for it.

  • I found a really cute baby doll on clearance at Target that we are going to give DD at the hospital. It has a little carrier so she can "wear" the baby like Mommy will be. :)
