Thoughts - small boat ride

DH's friend has a cabin on a large lake and so he wants us to visit and go out on his boat.  I don't really want to go because we are bringing our 2 yo and I don't want to have to entertain her while the guys do their thing, but what are your thoughts?

I just picture myself sitting on a bench in the boat, in the hot sun, and not a good choice of bathrooms (I think it has a tiny bathroom?).  If I ever have to sit in the hot sun, I feel like crap within like 5 minutes, so I already feel like I don't want to do it.. but maybe I'm just being grouchy?

(Also if you have a 2yo - what would you do?  Mine will color for like 5 minutes or play with a toy for a few minutes, but how would I even begin to entertain her for hours on a small boat?)

Re: Thoughts - small boat ride

  • If there is no shade on the boat I'd say absolutely not.  And it sounds like you really don't want to go out on the boat anyways, so why can't you and DD stay behind at the cabin while they're out on the boat?

  • Is there a beach at the cabin?  At least then you could swim and play in the sand. (And invest in a beach umbrella)

  • We are on a boat a lot during the summer.  I just keep hydrated.  There's plenty for a two year old to look at and learn about on a boat to keep them busy.  We take a Leapster, coloring books, books and small "busy" toys.

I even drove our jetski last month!  (Very carefully).

  • I am 30 weeks, and have a 4yr old and a 3yr old, we go to the lake on our in-laws boat all the time- and have for years, our kids LOVE it- they are perfectly happy just sitting and riding on the boat, or the lake we go to they jump out and swim- they have toddle life jackets on, they just love the boat- i get hot easily, and i have been just taking lots of fluids and a hat- and it works great, plus when the boat stops you can jump in and cool off!

  • I have done it several times with my 2 yr old and he has a blast.  He has been enterained with everything in the water.  I say go and have fun!  Bring plenty of water and sunscreen and it will be a blast.
