Up with heartburn

I'm so tired but if it's not one thing it's another! Tums have stopped working COMPLETELY so I can't sleep or lay in any position other than upright. So now I'm sitting on the couch, bumping and hoping to keep this stomach acid down.

Anyone up with the same ailment?

Re: Up with heartburn

  • I always make sure I drink a glass of milk before bed.  And then only water after that.  It has helped me soo much.  I had bad acid reflux before pregnancy and did medicine treatments for it and it cleared up for a few months then I got pregnant and eventually it started up again.  Can't really medicate for it so I have done tums and of course the milk thing....milk works more often then tums does anymore!

I've heard mixed things about milk but at 12:30am I'm about to go drink some. AND a nice, cold glass sounds good. Here's hoping that we have some and that it is good!

Totally just realized we are the same length along in this wonderful journey.  Only person I've seen so far due the same day as me....I'm kinda psyched about it.  I deffinatly hope that milk will help you out.  I personally hope the acid reflux goes away after the baby is born....I'd hate to have to redo the treatment for it....was supposed to be pretty perminant.

  • My doctor said that Zantac and Prilosec OTC is safe to take during pregnancy. It has worked wonders for my acid reflux.

Figures I'm switching to your doc....mine said no prilosec and thats what I used before to keep mine under control....I'm only allowed Tums and he is pretty anti medicating at that.

  • My docs are not anti-meds ( and neither am I truthfully)... And DH just got up, put on his clothes and said " I'm going to get you some skim milk". So hopefully it will work.

I'm a teacher and go back to work tmw so I was hoping for a good night!

and JUST--- yay for twin due dates!

  • My doctor also recommends prilosec OTC or zantac...he's been very pro-medicating thus far lol

  • I'm a little late on this subject, but I've gotten my first dose of acid reflex or heartburn whatever it is last night. I wish I could drink milk, but I would gag. Hmmm, maybe some yogurt?

  • My OB said Prilosec OTC (famotidine 10mg) twice a day is fine..I also have a little glass of milk before bed..and on the occasion when I wake up w/ acid reflux...lets just say...we ALWAYS have milk ready haha! I think it helps wonders. Takes away that burning feeling for me and relaxes me to fall back asleep...Good Luck! i'm in the same boat...it stinks!

  • Yep. In the past few days I've had to increase my Tums intake, and it isn't working anymore. I drank a glass of milk last night, and that helped, so I guess I'll continue to do that.

  • Prilosec OTC works wonders.  I take one a day and I haven't had my heartburn since.

It started getting so bad I would throw up from the acid.  Heartburn is a big deal--it could lead to bigger problems later on if untreated.
